 and its quite sad hes better then the rest of them, especially the forum people.

 4/5 pages of whining and crying about 80GB PS3 bundle being $599, wtf is sony doing not giving people the option to only buy hardware.   Quite sad the Patcher is the one with the most common sense.

Those two things together mean he's expecting the PS3 to have sold definitely more than 3.6 million units in USA by the end of the year (total cumulative sales). And that's ignoring the 80 GB sales, and the sales after the first price cut. I know it's Pachter, but what do you guys think about that number?

He didn't necessarily say all the 60 gb models will be sold out this year, early 2008 could be anywhere in the first 4 months.

Thanks to Blacksaber for the sig!

Another wonderfully set up thread by Blue3. Though in all seriousness didn't the analysts also say the PS3 would be a smash hit?

End of 2007 Predictions:

Wii =18m

360=14m

PS3=7m

DS=64m

PSP=30m

I just happen to think that there are many people who underestimate what the lower price of the 60gb system will do for sales of the PS3. If there are really 2-3m unsold 60gb PS3's, I would guess that they will sell out of them all around the 1st of october, possibly sooner. Looking at local stores in my area, there are 4 BB stores sold out now as well as 2 CC stores. That is a very telling sign right there that demand for the PS3 has increased considerably since those stores probably haven't sold out of PS3's since the launch period.

get off the crack man. You think the PS3 can sell 2x what is has since launch in 4 months? All they would need to sell is 500k a month, seem realistic? 60 gig PS3s will be around next year.

Here's some more interesting comments from Pachter:

http://www.gamepro.com/news.cfm?article_id=122468

In the spirit of "who won E3" from year's past, GamePro speaks with respected industry analyst Michael Pachter on which of the big three console makers had the best showing this year.

"I'd have to say that Nintendo won," Pachter said in regards to the most exiting or disruptive conference this year. "They had new hardware and decent software introductions."

But Pachter didn't think that way until news broke on Friday that the new, cheaper PS3s would soon be discontinued. "Sony had seized the show until the 'discontinued' 60Gb issue arose, and that hurt them by confusing their price cut."

"Microsoft had decent software to show, but no price cut," he added suggesting the much rumored price drop would have been a good thing for Xbox 360 being that its sales have gradually declined in recent months according to NPD.

"It wasn't a very impressive show overall, so it's not like anyone was a 'loser,'" he maintained.

On the topic of how next year's E3 could be improved, Pachter noted that he liked the intimacy and accessiblity of game demonstrations, but missed the grandeur of last year's showing. "I think that the spectacle creates a vibe in and of itself, and it makes the overall show much more fun," he said. "This show was not fun at all."

The analyst concluded that a show about half the size of last year's 60,000 attendees would be ideal when compared to just 5,000 this year, and that he'd like to see the expo earlier in the year as opposed to July.

Die Pachter, die

Anyway, does anybody know how many shipped PS3's there are in North America? I think I've seen a ~5.8 million shipped, but I don't recall if that's shipped worldwide or not.

 Never say something can't or won't happen.  I think it's possible, but it's the combination of the 60gb being 499 now and a slew of new games that excite many gamers that are coming out in the next couple months.
