Forums - Nintendo Discussion - The Wii's current lack of mature content games: temporary or terminal?

It's going to slowly change, but don't expect it to be extremely different from now. Personally i hate the idea of "mature" games, because often these games are far less mature than many games that are E. If you have to have many shooters, you need to get 360, ps3, or a PC. If you're like me and you just want to play a good game regardless of whether it is "mature" or not, then you can't go wrong with any of them and the wii stands strong alongside the 360 and ps3.

currently playing: Skyward Sword, Mario Sunshine, Xenoblade Chronicles X

With regard to M-rated games, the Wii is actually doing better than it gets credit for.

Already out: RE4, RE:UC, Manhunt, Medal of Honour, Brothers in Arms: Double Time, Call of Duty 3, Red Steel, Far Cry: Vengeance (I know the last three aren't great games, but we're only talking ratings, right?), No More Heroes

Coming soon: Call of Duty 5, Quantum of Solace (M-rated, right?), Mad World, Fatal Frame IV, Disaster: Day of Crisis, Conduit, Red Steel 2, Ubisoft has promised some Tom Clancy games, Cursed Mountain, and I believe Miyamoto even said that he wouldn't be surprised if the next Zelda would be M-Rated.

Are any of the above decent games? I think I'll definitely be purchasing No More Heroes, I am looking for 1 more at least and am uncertain how well FPS work on the Wii, Disaster looks nice, I might get that. Our apartment ontop of the Wii has a PS3 and 3 PC rigs so COD5 will be an entirely PC affair. This xmas we are almost certain to get a Xbox if the price drops further, (has not occured in Australia yet) the numbers of JRPG on it and coming soon ultimately forced my hand.

Edit: To Johnsobas, as stated our apartment is choke full of game rigs & consoles, we have old system going as far back as the N64 (Megadrive and Saturn broke >_>). Perhaps my taste have just changed, but I've found myself gravitating more towards mature content games, that doesn't mean I don't have fun with SSBB or the like, I have already pre-ordered LBP and Spore interest me (DRM does not), but I spend more time on games like MGS4 and GoW.

I predict LBP would be the exception as from the preview I've seen I'm already hopeless in love with it.

I give you Left 4 Dead. As for Dead rising. I know it won't be the same, but we'll see how Chop till you drop turns out.

I'm a mod, come to me if there's mod'n to do.

Chrizum is the best thing to happen to the internet, Period.

Serves me right for challenging his sales predictions!

Bet with dsisister44: Red Steel 2 will sell 1 million within it's first 365 days of sales.

Well actually, I hate to put it like this, but you don't have a clue what the Wii lineup looks like.

Wii is king of survival horror this generation - no questions about it.

Wii may not win in quantity in the FPS genre, but its seeming like it may win quality (The conduit as an example, Red Steel 2 should actually be good as well)

RTS - No console could ever compete with the PC here, why even consider it

RPG - 360 is winning this (at least if you ignore handhelds) but the Wii is still getting some great games

The reason you got confused, is that the Wii has alot more games on it, and a large proportion of these are casual shovelware. The same happened to the PS2

Sports - Not sure if this counts as mature content, but certainly aimed at an adultish audience, the Wii is getting higher ranked EA sports games lately, and next year when Wii Motion+ has taken off it'll get better.

Hi Scottie, as stated before, would you mind making some recommendation? Conduit appears to be out only Q1 next year and I can't find a release date for Red Steel 2 at all.

I am looking at purchasing a couple of games for the Wii this xmas for my flatmate and I intent for them to be games that I'll like to play (I know I'm an ass :D).

I have locked down on No More Heroes, the game has the 'Kill Bill' vibe that i totally dig and am considering Metroid.

We enjoy co-op FPS and RTS (PC Only), JRPG, my taste run towards RE5 and GT while he prefer the likes of SSBB and Mario Kart, the third dude is also getting a PS3 so he'll get whatever i'm getting.

FPS is a mouse and keyboard only thing for us all, we've been having fun ever since Quake on the PC and the switch to D-PAD just doesn't feel right. I'm looking at a couple of alternatives for the PS3 as killzone2 looks delicious.

I have no idea how FPS works on the Wii, its sounds awesome but I don't know how responsive or accurate it is?

The games will come, in time. As of right now, the userbase isn't big enough to offset the concentrated demographics that the HD consoles combined have. However, they do want the Wii to be a system for everyone. They defend MadWorld, and don't forget their DS game:

“Nintendo wanted us to make GTA, and we wanted to make a game on their platform. They didn’t want us to make a GTA for kids, and we weren’t interested in making a game we wouldn’t normally make.” (referring to drug dealing minigame)

The games will come, just give it a year or so for the console to deliver.

Shooters on the Wii handle really well, if the devs put in a bit of effort. I even prefer Wiimote+Nunchuck to Keyboard+mouse

No More Heroes is an Excellent Choice
Buy Metroid, the controls for it are done so beautifully
Resident Evil 4:Wii edition is also worth purchasing, and controls very well
Dead Rising should be out by Christmas, and there should be two Call of Duty games
There's also 2 medal of honour games
Obscure: The Aftermath (called Obscure II in the EU) is good PS2 port, feels very much like RE:4 (has good co-op)
Fire Emblem is apparently a great RPG, I plan to pick it up at some stage

Why is it being "mature" an issue? If a game is fun, a game is fun, it doesn't really matter whether you can behead hookers or jump from platform to platform. Play a good game, because it's good.

My Games of 2011:

The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword

Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim

Super Mario 3D Land

Uncharted 3: Drake's Deception

^ You got that right.

At any rate I do think more mature games will come in time. As others have pointed out, Mad World, RE games, COD and the like are coming, when they garner good sales than other companies will come to accomidate.

I am suprised that more companies haven't anounced screen shooters for the Wii.

The wii is the only system that can support a "gun game" on a modern TV. Ghost Squad is excellent. I would love an AREA51 Wii version, as well as Viruta Cop 3 and Time Crisis. Oh OH! and Silent Scope, with a new gunmount. Bitchin!
