Forums - Sony Discussion - Rachet & Clank comments - gameplay not innovative, no multiplayer

There are basic types of gameplay that will always be fun, shooting things is fun and jumping is fun, but unless you vary what you're shooting or how and change up what you're jumping over, it gets old even for the core fans.

I believe R&C will provide enough improvements in graphics and levels to perceive this game as a fresh stuff.

I think that if you take a game for what it is, you get a different impression than if you compare it. Of course comparisons do matter.

Will R&C be worth $60? Not to me, many fans think otherwise. Good for them. I think the lack of Multiplayer is a shame, especially since PS3 is supposed to be competing with the 360. Of course one game isn't going to make or break Sony.

I can handle about one platformer per year... guess which one I AM buying this year. it starts with an "S" and ends in a "Y".

SLY COOPER?!

Edit: I'd rather play Mario then R&C but that's just my opinion.

Hahaha, lol, stop it, your killing me.  I can't stop laughing....  OMG, that was the funniest thing I have read or heard in weeks... I am think I am going to throw up, I am luaghing  so hard...   Seriously, my coworkers are all looking at me.  I hope they don't catch me on the internet. lol.

I would cite regulation, but I know you will simply ignore it.

Obviously this particular reviewer didnt think so.

Personally I dont believe graphics can ever do a very good job of making a game actually better as a game, its just polish on top. Levels however can make or break a game.  But if you dont have the basics down right, the gameplay and everything, then your screwed from the outset and from what Im reading the reviewer seems to have got that impression. Of course reviewers can be wrong.

I agree. We'll see, but as I've said, I personally think R&C is one of the Playstation's best franchises, and I think Insomniac is an excellent developer. We'll see, of course, but I always suspect that individual reviews like this that are vaguely negative are aberrant and won't be indicative of the general opinion. As I said, we'll see, but that's often true.

In the games defense though. When you can have the detail of fish/slug aliens sloshing around inside fish bowl helmets that can lead to a very entertaining experience. Humor, story and animation are part of what will make the current gen of consoles successful... if they are successful against the you system that S--------y is on.

(I am trying really hard not to say Wii, because I don't want to wake up the blind fanboys. R&C will probably be a solid game that will be great for people who want a humorous action platformer. I prefer a platformer that is based on manuevering through platforms, i.e. Super Mario Galaxy)

I fly this flag in victory!

The dancing gun alone in Rachet is new.  I'm not concerned yet.

Help! I'm stuck in a forum signature!

Another hands-on perspective from 1up:

"Ratchet and Clank Future: Tools of Destruction -- Man, this game is so fuckin' fun. I got to play it yesterday for the first time and I was shocked how enjoyable it was. Well, not so much shocked, but surprised I didn't realize before it was so good. I say this because although I always thought it looked good (and I've always enjoyed the Ratchet series) TOD didn't really do it for me...until I played it. Not only is this game a total looker, but the variety of gameplay (just in the 10 minute demo I played) was fabtastic. So yeah, if you're like me and kinda dismissed Ratchet because you thought you've played it before, don't -- you wanna check this out. Plus, it's soooooo refreshing to see a classic platformer again. I love me some first-person shootin' and some hardcore hack-n-slashin', but it's been a LONG while since I got some quality hop, skip, and rail-glidin'."

Anyway check out all the gameplay videos at Gametrailers and make up your own mind, and BTW I love the fact that this game's graphics is like a Pixar animation movie:

Naughty Dog: "At Naughty Dog, we're pretty sure we should be able to see leaps between games on the PS3 that are even bigger than they were on the PS2."

PS3 vs 360 sales

"gameplay feels identical to previous iterations"
Oh my, what a surprise !
Killzone 2, Halo 3, Lost Odyssey and Super Mario Galaxy are going to be so freakin innovative, yeah ?
No.
But we would still love them.

And R&C looks fantastic.
