At the introduction of the first next gen console the standings will probably be:

1st: Wii
2nd: 360
3rd: PS3

At the end of the three current consoles sales lives, the standings will probably be:

1st: Wii
2nd PS3
3rd 360

The PS3 will catch and pass the Wii during the Holiday season of 2010. How well the PS3 does over the next year or so with the ability to play movies like The Dark Knight on blu-ray as well as the ability to play games like MGS4, Final Fantasy XIII, Heavy Rain, and God of War III exclusively on PS3 is truly going to shock the naysayers.



My most anticipated games:  Whatever Hideo Kojima is going to do next, Final Fantasy XIII, Final Fantasy Versus XIII, Gran Turismo 5, Alan Wake, Wii Sports Resort.  Cave Story Wiiware.

I'm really curious to see if anyone still believes PS3 will win the war outright, not 2nd place, not 1st HD console, but 1st overall, and why.

 

Which ones were they?

I'd argue that most of them did not until well into 2008, and some still haven't.

I don't think any console but the Wii could possibly claim a real "victory" this gen, although I do think that the PS3 will pull well ahead of the 360 in a few years time, unless MS does something pretty fantastic.

It is possible that the PS3 could approach the Wii's numbers in a few years -- as a percentage, but I think overall may be out of the question at this point.

The only way Sony could actually overtake the Wii would be by some Blu-Ray miracle, making Blu-Rays the defacto-standard in the next couple years, and a slimline PS3 at $299.99 or less. Not impossible, I suppose.

1st is taken by the Wii for sure.

Now second place is still wide open.
I'm a fan of the xbox so i can't really say without bias. Doesn't mean i think the PS3 can't finish second though. Sony and Microsoft have to play their cards right, i think a few bad moves and it's third place for either.

Ah ha!  So there is still one believer, good to see you haven't all died out.  It's like finding someone who believes in Greek Mythology.
