Forums - Gaming Discussion - How's your luck with consoles and handhelds?

I had 2 GBs get lots of lines on the screen so that it is hard to play. My DS (which I got this year) has a cracked hinge. It doesn't mess with gameplay so I don't care.

My old Nintendo stopped reading games from old age.

My brother's PS2 skips a lot during some movies.

I bought and sold some Xbox 360s when they 1st came out and a couple of them RROD within a few months.

My PS3 died within two months (wouldn't start) and my sister seems to have killed a slimline ps2 (drive problems - not sure) after 2-3 years. My 1990's gameboy got a few black/white lines in the screen but still worked last time I turned it on. As for PC's I've had one hard drive fail and one screen die on me over 14 years.

Not a single console has yet to break on me. PCs are a different matter.

intellivision: part of the board became so oxidized that it could no longer carry a current so I sanded it down and drew a bead of solder to fix it.

nes: takes a good 10+ minutes to jimmy the cartridges into that special sweet spot where they work.  put in the game you want to play and insert it along with another cartridge and pieces of paper until it boots. very common.

snes: no issues

gameboy: died. I don't know why.

gameboy colour: no issues. bought to replace broken gameboy.

ps1: no issues

ps2: no issues

ps3: no issues

psp: no issues (newest member of the family)

xbox: no issues

xbox 360: rrod

My Gamecube, Wii and Xbox360 never broke down!

Never had a single console break on me, the closest was my SEGA CD player giving me disc read issues for about a month then it just cleared up on its own, probably something got on the lens that wasn't coming off with my cleaning solution. I got a new DS cause I messed up the shoulder button but even the shoulder button still worked.

My SNES graphics chip failed after 6 years of very heavy use and had it repaired. The repaired one still works to the day.

My 360 failed after 1 year. No RROD, but DVD drive failure.

I've also had NES, N64, PS1, PS2, PS3, GBA, DS, and PSP. They are all fine and dandy.

"Naturally the common people don't want war: Neither in Russia, nor in England, nor for that matter in Germany. That is understood. But, after all, IT IS THE LEADERS of the country who determine the policy and it is always a simple matter to drag the people along, whether it is a democracy, or a fascist dictatorship, or a parliament, or a communist dictatorship. Voice or no voice, the people can always be brought to the bidding of the leaders. That is easy. All you have to do is TELL THEM THEY ARE BEING ATTACKED, and denounce the peacemakers for lack of patriotism and exposing the country to danger. IT WORKS THE SAME IN ANY COUNTRY."  --Hermann Goering, leading Nazi party member, at the Nuremberg War Crime Trials
