Oh common... even I managed to get past that part without any difficulty... great scene, one of the most memorable ones in gaming history IMO :D

My point is that even in a survival horror game there should be a point A. and a point B. and a somewhat logical way to get from one to the other... doing random stuff that triggers other ramdom stuff is just frustrating because is forces you to randomly try all options without logic until you get lucky... thats what the OP experienced and what scared me away from the game when I first played it...

Exploring the village and killing the Ganado along the way is not 'random stuff,' it's what a gamer should have done instinctively.  I probably died a few times and I was fine with that. I never went far enough to say that the game had poor game design. I can't believe the OP took that long to figure out what to do....dying that many times simply means suckage.

Don't take anything personally, of course. You'll get used to the game, and it will get even better. Still, I completely disgree with the OP. The village area was the most memorable to me in RE4....I wish I could go through it again for the first time.

Thanks for making my point nice and clear so that El Duderino could understand better.

The game is amazing.

I can certainly see where you're coming from though. I guess it's possible to spend quite a while before you realize what you have to do in that beginning section.

Play on...

I'm confused. You went around some back alleys thinking it's a stealth sequence, and when the guys spot you, you reload your game? Why didn't you shoot them and just play the game?

I dunno I found the opening paced just right, the sinking feeling, and the apparent hopelessness of your predicament sort or set the tone for the rest of the game... "out of the frying pan, and into the fire" so to speak.

Ps.

I got the past the intro 1st attempt... maybe thats why I like it??

I understand that the beginning of the game can be confusing if you aren't greedy as me and kill everyone without thinking twice, but after the village scene it should be clear that you are supposed to kill pretty much everything you can, because it's a good way to get money which you need to upgrade your weapons. Also, the ammo is plenty in this game, just don't start to think that you have to use the knife to save ammo. The game adapts to your playing style, so if you solve all your problems with guns instead of the knife, you get more ammo from the enemies.

The knife is not a bad things though.  I love it, things like the Krauser fight where you pretty much have to go with the knife are some of my favorite parts.  I love swinging the wii-mote as your knife fighting.

The knife definitely comes in handy when you fight Krauser. But I have heard from some people that they were always low on ammo even though they used the knife a lot. Well, that was their problem. Not using a lot of ammo greatly reduces how much ammo you receive from enemies.

Of course when I say use ammo, I mean to actually hit the enemies. Firing bullets in the air won't do you any good.

I've always used the knife a LOT, and been very conservative with ammunition.  So it worked out and I never run out of ammo.  But I'll definitely have to try it the other way.

My advice to fanboys: Brag about stuff that's true, not about stuff that's false. Predict stuff that's likely, not stuff that's unlikely. You will be happier, and we will be happier.

@amp316

You had to at least die once, or your health had to be low. Nobody went through that first part perfectly.
I am playing the Wii version of Resident Evil 4 now, and I died like 4 times. Just because of poor strategies. I got past it because I explored around the environments and looked for herbs, handgun ammo and shotgun ammo. For some reason you get more pestas (money) than you do any other items!
