Forums - Microsoft Discussion - What is the main purpose for Xbox 360 Achievements?

I want to here peoples opinions.

Is it for bragging rights or what? I have been unlocking a few achievements lately and I focus more on unlocking then I do worrying about gameplay.

So should I worry about achievements or not and what use are they for?

To piss you off!!

I don't think its for bragging right since I've never seen anyone go "I Roxor I have XXXXX amount of points"

i think its just a list of achievements...

And rol your right the first thought to my head is bragging rights.

Look joey I have more gamerpoints than you...haha..

joey cries....hehe

i guess that depends on you.
i enjoy collecting achievements...in the same manner i will enjoy trying to collect all the music notes and jiggys in banjo. just for self-satisfaction.
there only real use is comparing what you have done in a game to another person though.

if you enjoy collecting them...collect them. if you dont...then dont.

But I mean a list of achievements, what do they do? Extend replay value of the game or something.

I mean I hate to play a game just for achievements. I like to play games just to have fun and if I like it. I then go back and go for achievements. I guess....

I do enjoy collecting them. I just wanted to see if users just play games solely for achievements and forget about games. Cause sometimes I see people play Avatar and such just to boost there achievement score. Like for real? ;o

yeah I would say bragging rights / self satisfaction.

MS also talks about Live having a grouping methodology for online play, I think selecting PRO, Recreation, Underground is one part of this (if not the only) but GS Points may do something to that too.

yes...for some people achievements can be like crack. i wouldnt advise behaviour like that though...its unhealthy.   if you get ever urges to pick up trash games solely for achievements points, please seek help immediately.

Exactly my point. I have a friend on Xbox Live. He is way addicted to the gamerpoint thingy. I forgot his gamertag. But he has like 40k achievement points. Some are regular good games and others are trashing ones where he can get achievements quick. And he has some Microsoft Windows games that have achievements like Halo 2 and Gears of War surprisingly..
