Forums - Microsoft Discussion - How Many 360 only owners will get the ps3

Eventually I'll have all three like last gen

Around the Network

I was so very close to getting one, but got a set of new golf clubs instead.
I'm happy enough with wii360 so I will not be getting a PS3.

based on Metacritic
source: http://www.metacritic.com/games/

360- >89%:16(03.5%) , >79%:94(20%) base on 460 game release XBLA included
PS3- >89%:05(02.5%) , >79%:60(30%) based on 205 games
Wii- >89%:06(02.3%) , >79%:23(09%) based on 258 games

We can see perhaps some reasons why someone may want a PS3 or and Xbox 360 that doesn't have one. Please feel free to correct any errors from this or use another site. I think these numbers could justify anyone who has one console to go out and buy another. I think those 90+ games just show how hard it is to make a great game.

come on people, $199 is not the sweet spot anymore its $299.

OT: Both 360 and PS3 only have a handful of games that are worth while getting. Both consoles seem to be doing worse then they were last gen for the gamers. I don't think many 360 owners will want to get a ps3 until next year when the ps3 starts to pick up more steam.

As for BR. I have not bought any BR movies, but yesterday, something happened that changed my mind. i was browsing in HMV when they had a stand playing Transformers and I was confused whether it was Transformers I own on DVD or a new Transformers. At the same time there was a group of people watching the same demo. Turns out it is Transformers on BR and the quality just blew me away. You could see little scratches and dents on the metal that i couldn't even see at the cinema's! It was the most visually pleasing thing i had seen and it made me change my mind and pre-order a copy of Transformers. Now I'm starting to think about a whole library of future BR films if the quality difference is going to big this big. i say big, because it is noticeably big, not just by a small amount.

I think for me it's a little too late this Gen to pick up another console. If Sony could have gotten the price down to 199 this year I would have considered it, but it just wasn't in their business model.

199? Wow. Keep waiting guys.

I think the reason they're saying that is quite obvious.

Hint: They wouldn't touch the PS3 in life time.

Same!!!

I think is is very funny for some one who own 360 and still want a ps3 just for blu-ray player.

They are making themselves look stupid.

OK, a summary of this thread so far (as i see it)

Reasons why some current 360 owners won't buy a PS3 at the moment:
1 price
2 library
3 lack of backward compatibility with PS2 games (ps1 games work fine)
4 not interested in Blu-Ray

All these are very valid points.

Sony has not IMO done a very good job in marketing so far, Blu-Ray remains relatively unknown, the excellent interoperability with the PSP is also relatively unknown, the fact that it has an Internet browser (no matter how poor it is, at least it has one) is not widely known, and nor is it's ease of use and capability as a media server.
Also the ease of upgrading the HDD and backing up/restoring has not been hyped enough IMO.
All Sony seems to be focused on at the moment regarding the PS3 is it's slowly improving games library, and they really need to work on getting the news out there that it's not only a very capable games console, but it has other fantastic features too, if they want to convince more 360 owners to fork out the cash.

Also, it would be good if they addressed the 4 points above!
