i already smell a horse.
September NPD will be interesting, and don't forget Japan week 3 and beyond.

(July) PS3 outsold X360 when X360 have July pricedrop (and PS3 shortages)
(August) X360 outsold PS3, with no PS3 shortage, and rumor of X360 pricecut
(September) ..... this will be interesting

So where are all the "Madden Wii will outsell Madden 360" people?

The same place all the PS3>360 people are. Trying to come up with damage control and excuses.

Clever comeback. Now if you could actually cite posts of people who claimed that, I would have a small shred of respect for that post (proven joke fanboys don't count, by the way).

I was one, I admit, but I thought it became par for the course.

I have no problem admitting I'm wrong, but the Madden Wii > Madden PS3 people seem to be quitet :/

CEO Perspective

"We had yet another strong month for PlayStation in August, which validates that consumers are indeed recognizing the long-term value that PS3 offers as both a gaming and home entertainment device. We also began shipping the new 80GB PS3 model in late August to address any short term inventory transitions from the 40GB to 80GB model. We're looking forward to a solid holiday season and are excited to offer a string of unmatched content to consumers in the coming months with LittleBigPlanet, SOCOM: Confrontation, Resistance 2, and MotorStorm: Pacific Rift."

- Jack Tretton, president and CEO, Sony Computer Entertainment America

Interesting sales numbers. It'll be more interesting to see how the 360 does with the price cut.

How big are the chances NPD got the Madden sales wrong and VGChartz got them right?

Big. NPD doesn't track Wal-Mart or Toys R Us which have a far larger sales portion of Wii and Wii games sales than the HD consoles do.

I've seen advertisements for huge Toys R Us Wii console shipments and VGC would show a visibly sizable effect on the sales while NPD looked as though it wasn't accounted for at all.

Does VGC track Wal-Mart/ TRU?

To my knowledge, yes.

FilaBrasileiro said:

I disagree.
Also, let's remember that if VGChartz numbers are right and if VGChartz tracks walmart and TRU and vgchartz Wiii Madden is actually the correct number, then how do you explain PS2, PS3 and 360 being undertracked by VGChartz when compared to NPD?

Also Walmart has just a large section for the Wii as they do for the PS3, PS2 and 360, I don't know about TRU but I assume they have a nice sizeable section for all other consoles as well.

A. Being undertrackd by 3-11% is not the same as an overtrack of 133%. 5% alone is typical range for margin of error.

B. Fila, it's not about how large the shelf space is but the volume they sell overall as a percentage compared to the NPD tracked stores like Gamestop.

Understandable, and I do think Wii and DS is more likely to move units at TRU than the other 2, but I don't believe that to be the case at Walmart.

Also if, as you suggest, the Wii numbers are right and NPD does not track TRU and Walmart, but VGChartz does and if PS2, PS3, 360 Madden NPD #s > VGChartz, then you'd agree with me that vgchartz has undertracked PS2, PS3 and 360 Madden by more than 3-11% right?

The last 2 npds have been real supprises lol not much more to say.

Wow, Mario Kart Wii continues to absolutely crush GTA 4 -- even if you combine the 360 and PS3 version Mario Kart Wii still sells 4x as many copies.

So, what do you blame for the poor sales of Madden on the Wii before it went under the "All Play" brand? Given the hardware sales, and the casual nature of the platform, the Wii greatly underperformed with the Madden series. As for the marketing, it managed to do very well on the PS2 and incredibly well on the PS3, and it seems like all versions got about the same amount of advertising save for the 360 version.

As for why Madden doesn't sell well on the DS...isn't it obvious? It has a lot less to do with demographics and a lot more to do with how the system is thought of. If you wanted to buy a Madden game, would you buy it on the DS? And if you were a 16-30 year old male, and you only owned a DS, would you be the type to buy Madden? Madden sales are great on the PSP despite it having less 16-30 males than the DS.

And Madden is becoming a hardcore game? When you write an essay and accurately describe the distinct differences between casual and hardcore, I might find it in myself to agree with that statement.

Actually he's right.  Looking at sales of Madden 07, 08, and 09, its obvious the All Play title had an effect.

For 07 and 08, the Wii version sold pretty much exactly equal with PS3 version.  And yet for 09 All Play, the Wii version only 40% of the PS3 version.
