It wouldn't surprise me if 2008 was the highest selling year for the 360.

What about last year..

It's selling more YoY, are you sure you want to make that prediction?

As many before me have pointed out there are plenty of great games coming out to justify getting a 360, and an excellent library of titles to play right now.  The backlog is so enormous I just recently got around to picking up the first Rainbow Six Vegas.

can you honestly tell me for one second that a game dics that hold 9 gb of info like a 360 disc and a game disc that holds 50 gb of info are even comparable at this point its like a cruise ship compared to a dinghy in terms of enjoyment and size lol any multi platform ps3 and 360 game will always be compared by size and yes size does matter!

IT WILL NEVER PEAK....cough...sorry, sometimes my love of the console makes me say strange and crazy things.

It will peak at a later point, some say it has peaked.....ehhh.....I think we will honestly be able to tell more in January of 2010.

I see next year's sales being very close to this year's.  I'm leaning towards this year being at its best, with next year's sales being slightly lower.  Either way, there's no way in hell it's peaking at 2010.

Oh, I'm talking about hardware sales, btw.  Software might be more interesting.

Any certain reason for that logic?

The Xbox 360 is just getting to some sort of decent price for the consumer (IE, $199 for Arcade).

As the price drops for the base-level entry to "next gen", we will see consumers shift in their demand for consoles. No console, sans the X360 is below $200. How then could you say that it's crested when it hasn't even had an agressive, or decent price drop?

Thats like using the logic that the PS3 has seen the best possible sales in 2008, and won't ever be stronger.

Off topic, but if you don´t mind my opinion...in your sig, I think your PS3 and Wii predictions are low.

Of course they are. I made the predictions before 07 was even over. I haven't updated that part of my sig since then. I assumed the PS3's price drop effect wouldn't be as large as it has been over the year, and underestimated Wii demand. I'd increase both if asked the same question now.

Why is the 360 number too high, though?

I thought they'd drop the price sooner.

However, 27m is still do-able if the X360 gets a significant boost from the NA price drop.

I was talking about software. MSFT will continue to push FP exclusives, UE3 games, sequels, and Halo (including Chronicles, Halo 3PS, and if true, the Halo Team tactical game--Maybe based on the UNSC HellJumpers?). I believe that they will give it everything they have in their arsenal until the next Xbox is released which could be aroung 2011-2012 and still support the 360 after that.

See this article: http://www.videogamesblogger.com/2007/03/13/next-xbox-720-to-launch-in-2011-2012-according-to-microsoft.htm

Worldwide definitely I agree. Still, there are those who just see the American market, and for that market the peak might be next year.

Worldwide X360 peaks this year, as the sales for the rest of the world is probably going to decline drastically next year, especially in europe.

Lost my faith in VGChartz. Too many stupid and ignorant Americans, even as moderators.

It's a shame, really. "The Boss" should do something radical about this Americanization, but it seems hardly feasible, so my days here are numbered.

I guess I see most of the people waiting for price cuts buying this holiday, rather than next.  There's also the possibility of a PS3 price cut next year (unsure about this), which would eat into its sales.  Like I said though, I'm betting next year will be very close to this year, so I wouldn't be surprised if it peaked 2009.  I just think 2010 is seriously pushing it, I mean that would mean the 360 would end up with something like 80+ million consoles, wouldn't it?
