Forums - Gaming Discussion - Wii VC games, and PSN games from Square-Enix?

I don't understand why the publishers of many of these classic games continue to let their games be sold as collector's items, rather than re-issuing the games themselves, and making more money off them.  I'm not going to include multi-disc PS1 titles in this list, since I'm not sure the PS3/PSP emulator is even capable of running them.

Why don't these titles make an appearance?  I'm sure I'm missing a zillion of them... these are just off the top of my head.  I wish I'd see games like Suikoden, Suikoden II, Tales of Destiny, Xenogears, etc. but they're not from Square-Enix, so I'm not including them either.

RPGs are one of the few genres to have really "durable" appeal, so it seems as though they should dominate the VC/PSN market...

Wii VC:

Secret of Mana

Chrono Trigger

Final Fantasy IV, V, VI

Ps1 classics for PS3/PSP, via PSN:

Legend of Mana

Vagrant Story

Chrono Cross

Square-Enix makes too much money remaking and repackaging all their old games to just allow people to download them cheaply and easily.

They're too busy releasing those series on the DS. Why offer Chrono Trigger for $8 on VC when you can charge $30-40 on the DS? Apply that to any other title on your list. There is money to be made with remakes on handhelds and Square knows this. 80 million DS owners, 40 million PSP owners, 30 million Wii owners and cut that by at least half which represents your VC buying community...if that. Where would you release a remake?

Tag: Became a freaking mod and a complete douche, coincidentally, at the same time.

Final Fantasy IV (and soon Chrono Trigger) are on a current-gen console already, making plenty of money. That's basically your answer - money. Any popular game of the past unplayable on current-gen consoles is a huge money-making opportunity for SE that a VC or PSN release could easily squander. Chrono Trigger DS alone will probably make more money for SE than any single VC game has made for any company.

Secret of Mana will come to the Japanese VC this month.

Oooh!  They'll have a total of 3 games on the VC!

Let's compare that to Sega...

"Secret of Mana on VC not enough. Resident_Hazard still disappointed. More releases needed!!"

Why on earth would they charge only 800 Wii points for them?  Is there an unbreakable rule or something?  Will the FBI swoop in if they charge a different amount than other SNES games?  Lol.  I didn't ask "why doesn't SE re-release these games, and also have them be practically free?"

Who wouldn't pay 2000 or 3000 Wii points for one of these titles (saving SE a LOT of money with distribution and production, and the retailer's cut), instead of having to purchase it on the DS, etc?  Understand that many of SE's SNES and PS1 games sell for upwards of $50-80 on eBay, which is about the only place you can even find them these days.  Many people would pay 2000+ Wii points for them, no question.
