Forums - Gaming Discussion - Is the Wii getting extra content/features a growing trend?

Really I have 2 questions but the subject box is not big enough.

With the Force Unleashed and the new Bond game (I am a Star wars and Bond fan) the Wii version has extra content and or features.

Force Unleashed extra levels and Lightsabre dual

Bond - split screen up to 4 way.

Is this trend going to continue and even become greater?

What is the reason behind the extra Wii content/features:

Is this due to the developers seeing more profit from the Wii or even having their imagination fired up by the controls?

Or is it due to the lower graphics means more space on the DVD for the content?

If its the content then my second question comes in. Is the Xbox360 holding the PS3 back?

My rational here is that as the Xbox 360 games are basically DVD based as well as the Wii then it must be the most constrained system for space and with developers seeming to bend over backwards to make the Ps3 and Xbox360 games as close as possible therefore Ps3 games will only get the content/features that can be squeezed onto a xbox360 game dvd.

What's your thoughts?

it definitely isn't the lower graphics giving the DVD more room for content.. because the 360 (i think) and PS3 disc mediums both have a fair amount more space than the wiis standard dvds..

actually.. i think 360 is limited by dual-layered discs too, so it may very well be the 360 version holding back the content of the ps3 version.. that said, extra modes wouldn't nearly take up more room than graphics unless new sounds/textures are required

@Tabsina: But both HD consoles are more limited by developement budget.

@Topic: I don't think 360 is holding back PS3. Most of the games fit single layer BD uncompressed and as some developers have stated, they compress the data in order to increase the BD read speed. So, in practice, all the games that fit single layer BD uncompressed, should fit DVD9 on a 3:1 compression ratio.

Both 360 and Wii can read dual-layer DVDs. I once read that 360 DVDs give up a large amount of space for DRM though, but take that with a pinch of salt until someone else here can clarify it.

The extras thing with the Wii is probably a little from column A, a little from column B, and maybe some smoke bombs from those who understand Nintendo's disruptive policies.

WHERE IS MY KORORINPA 3

They are most likely adding more content to try and get fans to buy the game twice.

Prepare for termination! It is the only logical thing to do, for I am only loyal to Megatron.

Just been in Game at lunchtime and saw that the Wii version of the Force unleashed is rated 16 while both the PS3 and Xbox360 at only rated 12. The extra content must be gory.

Or to justify buying the game for the Wii at all.  Most games that are for all 3 consoles will seem to be cut-rate on the Wii because it doesn't have the graphics, the storage size for all of the cut screens, and the power to handle the more intense scenes.  To counter this, the Wii is given some feature that, hopefully, favors its motion controllers, justifying the game's purchase for the Wii, possibly as a second copy, for a small fraction of the cost to the manufacturer.

Once agan, Wii supports dual layer DVDs. A reduction in video resolution usually means a reduction in filesize (dependent on codec). This could actually turn out to be an advantage for the Wii, and people just don't see it.

@Gnac: It's similar advantage over 360, that PS3 has with BD. A little questionable of course, but Wii isn't the first one of the three that runs out of storage space.

Maybe these are things that have been developed for all three versions of the game -- but since they cannot sell DLC effectively to Wii owners, they put them in at the start to sell the game.

Then they sell the extra modes/stages to PS3 and Xbox 360 owners -- knowing they cannot accept Wii owners having something that they do not.

Think about it. It makes sense from a business perspective.
