MGS4 did SAME as previuos iterations with lower userbase. Any reason, why FFXIII won`t sell as good as FFX/FFXII or even better ? =)

   I think VIII was just kind of riding the coat tails of VII to the top.  VII was almost certainly the best FF, so after that it created a lot of excitement for VIII (and the PS user base was even bigger thanks in large part to VII).  FF VII was the one that deserves the top spot since it was the best by far.  Hopefully it will get a next gen remake and can claim its rightful place at the top of Japan gaming.

   Sadly FFVIII is one of the few I didn't finish.  I just couldn't get past that main character Squall, he was just awful.  "I'm a lone wolf, I can't need anyone" blah blah....Tidus is more my kind of hero, extroverted and fun not boring and brooding.  There was a serious lack of fun in 8, I think thats why I didn't like it.  There was cait Sith, Cid and all the rest in 7, a lot of great characters in 10...but 8 just kind of sat there like a lump of morbidness even past disk 3 (when I stopped playing).

   I just hope they don't crap out and make the FFVII remake a PSP game, it needs to be a quality console title to get the sales.

Userbase don't mean much how a game would sell. If FFXIII would not sell good because it has a lower userbase then the PS2/PS ONE;

Why did Tales of Symphonia 2 on Wii sold not twice that much as Tales of Symphonia on GC considering GC had a lower userbase?

The only possibility in the near term is DQIX - it's historically a big enough series and it has the userbase to do it. Furthermore there really hasn't been anything as big as a main series DQ title released on the DS so we cannot know how they'll react but I would be surprised if it didn't at least get close.

If you take a look at the 6 first titles, you will see that the release date was close to the end of the gen(except ff7). So the user base was almost at it´s maximum. In 2011, there may be some game that will sell 2 miln at the first week, or more. It´s too early yet.

Don`t forget, FFXIII will be FIRST CG-like FF game:

Anyway, Naruto Ultimate Storm sales might show, how much FIRST Anime-like graphics effect on sales. =)

FFXIII will certainly not beat VIII because it would need to sell to 90% of PS3 owners in a few days.

It will almost certainly make 1 million in it's first week though... also becoming the PS3s only million-seller in Japan..... I don't think LTD sales will go much past 2 million though, if at all.

Well PS3 sales will be quite higher when FFXIII release but I agree with you that FFXIII will not beat VIII.

Sorry to break it to you, but Gran Turismo 3 did not sell 1.9m copies on a "4m" install base. It sold 1.9m copies on a 22m install base. Unless you somehow believe that it sold every copy the first week it was out? Hate to break it to you, but Gran Turismo 3 only sold 565k its first week, and a little over 1 million in its first month. It then continued to sell in a slowly diminishing tail over the next three years. Those are tremendous sales, but it's simply untrue to say that it sold "1.9m on a 4m install base". By the time the game stopped selling, the install base was much, MUCH larger.

According to Crazzy's logic, Gran Turismo 3 sold 7m copies in America on a PS2 install base of 4m (July 2001)! Now that's Crazzy talk. =))
