Benchmarks are in FF3.1b is faster then Chrome for Javascript.

http://www.nordichardware.com/news,8095.html

With what I have seen from FF3.1 most complaints for FF3 should be removed as they have improved a TON of crap as well they seem to be adding somethings from what their development page shows. Also it adds new web standards that was just released by the WWC.

Any articles on benchmarks for Opera? I'm interested in seeing how Opera 9.52 competes with Chrome(0.2?)/Fx3.1

I know that Opera 10 (coming later this year) will be adding tons of optimisations and the renderer gets a 100 on the Acid3 test, but I was wondering how it stands now.

Opera probably regained or will regain their speed advantage versus FF. Back when early benchmarks for FF3 was released FF smoked Opera 9.xx but Opera 10 will probably be faster but still have the same issues as Opera 9 did (not full up to date on web standards, HTML5 and CSS3 was just adds a ton of new crap that FF3.1a2 already landed expect Opera to support most of it but not as much as FF).

I believe that Opera 9.5 (the stop gap between 9.2 and 10), released a few months ago, already added CSS3 support. The browser's renderer also saw many optimations (particularly on the js renderer which increased speeds by up to 2*(quote the raven*)). Of course, this is all just half-arsed stuff compared to what they've got planned for 10.

* raven = opera site.

It already has major security bugs too... I stopped using it because of that. The lack of extensions doesn't help either.

Definitely a good effort on Google's part, and a solid first version, but not at all ready for prime time yet.

Well, it is in beta.....I don't use it to login to my bank account or anything like that, but I browse around on it and stuff, it's actually pretty good all things considered.

Does anybody other than me think Intenet Explorer sucks ass?

 That's why it's a BETA

Knowing Google, it will probably remain a beta for many years. Gmail has "been in beta" for 4.5 years.

In any case, and all excuses aside, Google deserves some bashing for their security problems. They were the ones playing up Chrome as a revolution in secure browsing.

I was actually aiming the comment at the "prime time" remark, as it isn't meant to be for the primetime. I do feel that Google shouldn't have released the browser in its current state, however, it is just a BETA, and that's a perfectly valid excuse. The problem is, Google has got to such a size, that a on-the-quiet BETA release wasn't really possible (linking to it on their front page didn't help, either).

Gmail has been out of BETA for quite some time, now. But, yeah, it was in BETA for ages. I just think they use it as a backup "Yeah, your computer's fuxx0red, but we aren't responsible because it's BETA".

The stats from Net Applications are more trustworthy. They show that Chrome is hovering around 1 % usage. It will probably be a bit higher on the weekend, but I doubt it will reach 2 % very soon.

Nah, Gmail is still in Beta! It's in the logo. Google just has the habit of launching beta products as if they were ready for the mainstream.

I agree with your last sentence.

Google Chrome has very few bugs considering it's a beta. I don't think it's much more buggy then the other browsers. The security issues are not bugs however, they are rooted in Google's design decisions.
