Wow, so you thought people would actually read that?

looooooooooooooooooong, but I did read it, nice write up. Just one small thing that many(not just you) leave out is that you also need an HDTV to get the full appreciation of 360s games as well, not just for the PS3.

I had actually considered making a point of that, but I've found as much as anything, Microsoft had been selling itself on the online gaming aspects more than anything else, and only recently released the "elite" system in order to have that "true HD" support to compete with Sony. Sony on the other hand, had been primarily focused on the HD issue. So while 360 loses a bit as well if you don't have the HD TV, it doesn't lose as signifigant a portion of what its major features are.

Hmm... maybe I would have done better to start with one shorter post and then add on a few extra posts to break things up more.

I had been considering making a youtube version that would be voiced and have diagrams and movie clips to help keep the ADD crowd entertained (and yeah, I get to make fun of them cause I am part of that group so nyah)

Either that or the people complaining about the length are just doing so cause they can't find anything else to complain about, in which case, yay for me!

My Prediction: Wii will be achieve 48% market share by the end of 2008, and will achieve 50% by the end of june of 09. Prediction Failed.

just pointing out.... but now it looks like MS is playing catch up(in tech terms), and Sony was looking forward. HDMI(which I'll assume is your reference), should've been supported all along. Either commit or step off.

anyway, nice post.

Sony did give the impression that you needed a high definition TV to enjoy the PS3 (at least that was what I felt). I was actually put off buying a PS3 until I had saved up enough for a good HD TV as well. Although I didn't end up buying one - I realised I'm happy with my old TV for a while yet. I still intend to get one though, maybe I'll pick up one in the January sales next year. Anyway, I believe that Sony has scared off many people who don't yet have a HD TV. They cost a lot of money and everyone knows that the Playstation 3 itself doesn't come cheap!

@Grey Acumen. It was very long, I wouldn't of bothered reading it if others hadn't posted that it was a good read. It was, you made some good points.

I didn't read all of it, but I DID scan through it and I read most of the "important" stuff.

It was a good write-up. Ignore all these pests that are complaining about it being too long. If it's too long, don't read it and get over it. Seriously.

& I find it interesting to note that, while trying to be as unbiased as possible, you still end up coming out with Ninty on top.

Hmm.

That was nice to read, i feel i got the main points, and i liked many of your insights, which i hope will continue to spread as you become a greater member on these forums, we need more people like you, and less people who criticise others for no reason

Thank you, and welcome Grey

Don't listen to these folks, Grey Acumen. A complicated question deserves a complicated response. The idea that every topic can be solved with a couple of pithy one-liners is one of the biggest fallacies of our current generation. I read your entire post and enjoyed the discussion. Anyone who goes out of their way to declare "I refuse to read anything that long!" is only proclaiming their own ignorance.

The suggestion I would make is to perhaps try your hand at some more specific predictions; the only one I saw in there was that the Wii would be ahead of the 360 in worldwide sales by September. It's one thing to say the Wii will win, another to try and predict where sales will be at the end of 2007. Anyway, something to think about.

Also a minor mistake: the 360 sells for $400, not $500.

End of 2008 totals: Wii 42m, 360 24m, PS3 18.5m (made Jan. 4, 2008)

Aw, thanks, I knew would be some people who could make it through the whole thing. Thanks all of you guys ^^

As far as making specific predictions, I'm perfectly willing to let VGchartz and the prediction league handle that stuff :P I far prefer to predict as accurately as possible with known data. My biggest problem at the moment is that all three companies are really on the fence right now.

Nintendo needs to improve the use of the motion controls in their games, and give support to developers that do this, in order to keep the console as a whole from being watered down with bad games. The average consumer doesn't research every game they buy, and they could easily end up grabbing a few really bad games and thinking that they actually represent what nintendo can do.

Sony needs to show that it is worth the price by gaining an advantage in the bluray market and capturing those whimsical games like LittleBigPlanet that will keep it from falling into a niche like the 360 has done. Also, they need to staple the mouths shut of their PR team, cause they're so constantly switching between what they publicly state and what actually happens that no one believes them anymore.

Microsoft needs to concentrate on breaking out of their niche. They need to get an incredibly awesome FUN game that doesn't come across even remotely harcore. On top of this, they need to work on solving their Red Ring Issues. An extended warranty is like saying you can get free gas for your car when there's a hole in your gas tank. The free gas is great but when you run out of gas cause it all leaked out, you're stuck until you can GET to a gas station.

And you do have a point about the core 360 going for $400, but I was also focusing more on the Elite system in the "Wii at $250 vs. PS3 and 360 at $500" argument. I had meant to point out how even $400 can be viewed as too much in my line about how quickly a price can go from being a good deal to a bad deal, but I aparently skipped past that.

The multiple SKUs with Microsoft and Sony is another issue that I have with the two companies. It straight out confuses things.

looong, aint it? too many of nitty witty points, had to stop after the first half... Maybe the ideas are not biased but one can easily tell that you are a nintendo fan without reading the beginning lines, but the approach is still biased. How can I tell this? I have never owned a Nintendo console in my life, just borrowed, and I can sense an opposite approach in your article relative to mine, lol.
