Forums - Nintendo Discussion - Next game to use WiiMotionPlus = The Conduit!?

Wii Sports Resort might not be the only title to showcase the Wii MotionPlus when the dinky add-on launches next spring. GameSpot went hands-on with The Conduit at PAX 2008, and revealed that the shooter will feature MotionPlus support. The Conduit is currently set for a March launch, so has this new information also inadvertently dated Wii Sports Resort and the MotionPlus?

Whether it has or not, MotionPlus for The Conduit is Pretty Big News -- so much so, that we're afraid it may overshadow some of the other eye-catching details in GameSpot's report. These include:

  • In the final game, High Voltage hopes to have a completely customizable head-up display, in which any HUD element can be dragged and dropped to different parts of the screen.
  • There will be nine missions in total, with the singleplayer campaign lasting "about ten hours."
  • Cut scenes won't be used; rather, the story will be developed through news or radio broadcasts, much like the Half Life series.
  • Some projectiles can be guided using the cursor, which sounds a lot like the Nikita launcher in Metal Gear Solid, automatically making it ZOMGAWESOME.

This sounds great, they're really doing everything they can to try to please the fans. Being able to move any HUD piece wherever you want? Awesome. MotionPlus? I don't even know how they were able to implement it so fast, but that's really awesome.

I can't wait for this game. I'm a starved puppy for a great Wii FPS.

Customizable HUD sounds like a really cool feature.

But I wonder what they'd need WiiMotionPlus for in an FPS!? I could see where it would benefit the sword fighting segments of Red Steel, but for standard running and gunning...

Does HVS have something up its sleeve?

I'm sorry for some reason I suspect this game to be published by Nintendo.Think about as soon as nintendo released wii speak HVC said they had it supported. And now the game has Wii motion plus in it and we heard from it would take 9 months to intergrate into a game already being made without. So what do you think?

I love fighting games !!! Come on challenge me !

i think they mean to use it in a different game, they have more projects than just the conduit under development.

Yeah, I don't get it either. Maybe for pistol-whipping melee attacks. Maybe they've decided to include some kind of kickass melee weapon. I would think that such functionality would be very doable without WMP, but why not increase responsiveness by adding WMP support for those who have the add-on?

@ Exblackman

I don't think that necesssarily follows. HVC was already interested in implementing voice before WiiSpeak was announced. Since their PR team is the same bunch of guys as their dev team, when WiiSpeak was announced they could simply say that they intend to support voice and get to work on it without dancing around the issue and saying they'll have to ask somebody else in the company.

As for WMP support, they may already have licensed NaturalMotion middleware for their game and adding in their latest tools for WMP support takes little effort. I'm not sure where you're getting that 9 month number from, the middleware is already available.

I'm not ruling out that Nintendo will be their publisher, I just don't think that your evidence supports this claim.

From Gamespot's PAX preview, 10 hours is the run-straight-through-the-game-with-no-exploring-for-secrets campaign time. There are quite a few games this generation which don't manage 10 hours and don't have multiplayer to fall back on (Heavenly Sword and Force Unleashed come to mind). For that matter, few multiplayer-focused games exceed 10 hours of solo campaign this gen.
