Forums - Nintendo Discussion - How will the next generation go?

Now that Nintendo is back with the number one system, they will obviously make another. How will they possibly be able to make a system that targets the casual gamer THIS well? That's the same question about the next portable too. How will they be able to make another portable that gets gamers buying it in droves? We'll find out around 2010 or so for the DS, but for the next Wii, it will probably won't be announced in 2009, and will have to wait until 2010 to find out, since they are currently in research and development stage now. What are your thoughts on how Nintendo can improve on courting the casual gamer, and should they? Is the market better now that so many senior citizens are playing Wii? Are us hardcores really getting the "best" from Nintendo? I haven't seen the new Wii Zelda (T.P. is a GC game, NOT a Wii game!), and looks like I won't until at least 2009!

30-someting now, 40-something next decade!

iti reckon itll be a wii with upgraded graphics, online system, new motion controller with 1:1 as standard and a fre innovative surprises. for the next DS i think it will be something else not touch screen, the potential of that will have been tapped by then

nintendo fanboy, but the good kind

proud soldier of nintopia

Nintedo will be in number one again, because they will ride the succes of the Wii. The ps4 and the nextbox will be more towards casual, and will be cheaper. Microsoft will fix all the hardware problems with the next console, and I think it will possibly sell more than the ps4.

Nintendo will know what to do next. And don't worry/whine about hardcore attention, thanks to our friends who are new to gaming, we will be enjoying Nintendo's console for many years to come.
Look at the DS to see how the Wii will look in a couple of years. Good stuuf form third-parties is coming, and the WiiMotion+ tells us that Nintendo intends to give the Wii its share of more complex games, like Zelda.

I expect nintendo to win.

Most likely they wont say anything about the "Wii2" or else buyers attention focus away from the Wii.

In terms of the next generation, I hope to for better games with better online features and also add some more VC and WW.

Wow! Such a loooooooooong time to wait huh. Or would you rather they announce them game years ago and then go years without hearing anything?

OT:Dunno....of course the next consoles gonna be HD though.

Theres a lot of room for improvment though better Onlines/built in hard drive ,etc.

Nintendo

Release Wii 2 in Nov 2012. Console is more powerful than the seventh gen but considerably behind other offerings. Fully backward compatible with both the Wii and Gamecube and offers HD gaming. Low Price point and one game pre loaded on new HD. Motion sesitive Wii mote is upgraded but no major changes.

Sony

Release PS4 in Nov 2011. Console reverts to more accepted gaming CPU design after the failure of the Cell to ever really live up to early promises. Features High Capacity Blu Ray and comes equipped with Motion sensing controller. Console is priced high to recoup PS3 costs. Sports title based on London 2012 Olympics is preloaded on HD.

Microsoft

Release Xbox 2 in Dec 2010. Console is fully backwards compaitible with 360. Features HD-DVD hybrid drive licensed from old consortium for peanuts. Comes with 500 GB HD and same CPU RAM Design. Again motion sensitive controllers as standard. Console is agressively priced to steal a march on competitors.

It will really heat up next gen

Wii is a little under 50% market share. Until it starts to come down, Nintendo will only have to wait.
