Forums - Nintendo Discussion - How many of you are loosing interest in the Wii

Locking this thread. Even if your intentions were good, your ideas aren't shared by everyone. Many people like the Wii and are opposed to this thread, and many people hate the Wii and have tried to use this thread to flame it.

Sorry, but it's a lock.

It is naivety when you boil the Wii down to having only "mini game collections." That shows a lack of knowledge of what is actually on the system.

It was a general statement to emphasize how "clogged" the Wii is with mini games. Poor choice of words, my bad.

When you say, "games for me," what are you referring to? Because the Wii seems to have a fairly wide selection of genres, in fact, a much wider selection than either the Xbox360 or PS3 which are both clogged to the gills with First Person Shooters and sci-fi/military/war-based titles.

It's ok for you to generalize the 360/PS3. Do you see the similarities?

I see that you don't have a game collection listed under your profile. Perhaps you're one of those people who think that the only way to make a true hardcore game is to make it an FPS or RPG these days. Do you ever try other genres? I own and play games from pretty much every genre that has ever graced a video game console. I hardly care for one over another as I simply enjoy good, fun, high-quality, creative games. Turns out the Wii has those, even better than the N64 ever did which was clogged with crappy 3-D platformers and whatever else Rare came up with that wasn't Goldeneye. However, the N64 has long been a mystery to me since so many Nintendo gamers sing such high praises of the machine, and I feel that, aside from the Virtual Boy, it was the crappiest thing Nintendo ever made--and the system that nearly caused me to stop gaming.

You got all that insight from me not having a game profile? So the N64 is crappy to you and that's ok because it's your opinion and N64 wasn't for everyone. However, if I'm loosing interest in the Wii then that's blasphemy. No, no, I'M LIEING!! No, no, I've got mental issues ;)

The odd point you state is that you now dislike the Wii but have always been a Nintendo gamer. This makes the "I'm tired of the Wii" sentiment seem irrational since the Nintendo has delivered all the same stuff for the Nintendo gamer that all previous Nintendo systems had. Strong support of chief franchises, creative new titles, niche titles, and fan service. This is what's most puzzling. Because it's like you just woke up one day and decided that now, for no reason at all, you suddenly hate all the stuff you used to love, and in that, you feel the Wii is a failure--because the fan service you used to swallow up is now something you dislike.

Things change, the gamecube is the generation where I stopped being a Nintendo fanboy. I'm not saying I hate Nintendo,I'm just more open minded to other games on other consoles which is why I purchased a 360 <- my idea of good third party support. Odd, you should have picked all this stuff up from my game profile.

I never said I dislike the Wii. I actually like the concept. I stated that I like Nintendo made games, I even listed some third party games which I like. Its been a very long time since those games and I am simply (nothing else intended) loosing interest.

Games which I find interesting seem to not be coming to the Wii. Lets take Golden Axe for example. I came across an article about a new Golden Axe scheduled for release soon. Care to guess which system it's not coming out for? I never owned a Genesis but it doesn't mean I don't like the game. Same thing with Bionic Commando. There are many more games but it's just an example... perhaps you'll kind of understand where I'm coming from. Nah, your last sentence says it all.

Either that, or you were actually never a big Nintendo fan and lied about that in your original post in order to better sell the Wii short of your supposed expectations. However, being the fan-service-needing Nintendo fan makes sense for you since you liked the N64 and disliked the GameCube since the N64's only quality titles were all 1st or 2nd party Nintendo games and the GameCube's shining stars were often not built by Nintendo--Eternal Darkness, Resident Evil 4, Metroid Prime, Viewtiful Joe, etc. In fact, as far as fan service goes, the GC was the worst Nintendo system because it had on of the worst "regular" Super Mario games ever made and the weakest and easiest Zelda title ever crafted.

You nailed it!! I'm lieing... made the whole thing up. I never owned a Nintendo console ever. Would you prefer to believe this lie?

That all said, it seems that if you were in fact an actual Nintendo fan, that fan service is something that you were drawn to--and again, in that regard, it doesn't make any sense that you would so dislike the Wii since it's done more fan service for Nintendoheads than any other system--especially when the VC is factored in.

I think you're misunderstanding me. Dislike and loosing interest are two difference things. I may sell it eventually but it wont be a rash discission. I am hoping that good third party support will indeed come.

Do you suffer some traumatic brain trauma or something? I hear that can alter personalities...

Resorting to insults, I like your style ;)

I'm actually a pretty big fan of the Xbox360, but haven't had the money for it yet. Otherwise I'd be playing it all the time. That said, what are all the biggest titles on the system? They're almost all First Person Shooters, and the vast bulk of the PS3 library is simply ports of many of these titles. The Killer Apps for both systems: Bioshock, Gears of War, Resistance, Haze (well, it was supposed to be...), are all either FPS titles, or played exactly the same as FPS titles. Army of Two and Gears may technically be "over the shoulder," but they're played no differently than the standard dual-analog FPS. The PS3 is in an especially sorry state when games are concerned because the vast, vast majority of it's titles are multiplatform that can be found on any number of other formats. The point is, both of these systems are heavily bogged down with specific genres. You don't see many shmups, platformers, party games (had to include it), or puzzle games on the Xbox360 or PS3 unless you're digging around for smaller games on XBLA or PSN. The Xbox360 is, like, 70% FPS titles. That's like the old TurboGrafx-16 and Shmups. You don't see anything on either system as bizarrely unique as MadWorld or Deadly Creatures.

But this is your opinion.  What may be a killer app to you, may not be for me.  The future titles I'm looking forward to are SF4, Golden Axe, Bionic Commando and Banjo.  For current titles, I'm interested in getting Lost Planet and Dead Rising.  Not all FPS!   You're probably going pass a gallstone when I say this but the art style in MadWorld just isn't my taste.

I'm trying to understand your losing (the word actually having only one "o" for future reference) interest in the Wii because for the most part, it just comes off as the typical "hardcore kiddie with an attitude whining about Wii" thread. I mean, come on, there's tons of news about upcoming Wii games these days. The 3rd party efforts are bleeding out of the woodwork, and looking better and better all the time. "I'm losing interest in the Wii." Really? What, you want to give up just as the quality 3rd party titles start coming in? Everyone loses a little interest in all their consoles at some point. No console, not even the SNES or PS2 were batting .1000 constantly. I lost interest in the N64 for a variety of reasons, and found answers to my prayers (not literally) when I bought Tekken 3 and the Playstation. Did I get rid of my N64? Nah, there's always a good reason to hold onto my old machines. I come back to them all eventually. The last game I bought was Conker's Bad Fur day when it was $6 brand new at Target. The point is, I didn't go out and complain about it to anyone. I just found other interests for the time. That's what you could've done. Tell yourself, "eh, there are more games coming, guess I'll play Xbox360 for a while." But instead, you decided to meander into a holy war with rhetoric that only sounds more and more asinine when you consider how many games are actually coming to the Wii over the next year.

I've looked at the future Wii game list that a couple people have posted.  You're right the Wii has some quality third party titles coming.  I'm hoping they'll be released within a year but some may take much longer.  Since my friends and I agree regarding losing interest in the Wii, I thought it would be an interesting discussion (yes, could have been phrased better).

I mean, hey, you want to lose interest, that's up to you. But you had to expect this kind of stuff (the responses against you in this thread) when you started such a ridiculous topic. What purpose where you trying to achieve? What ends are you trying to reach? You just want to piss off Wii owners a little more who are already tired of these kinds of bitching? You think we're actually not aware that the support isn't fantastic? Those of us with positive attitudes simply look at it in a better light, rather than bitch on end, we are at least open-minded to what is on the Wii, and supportive of what's coming up in 2009. The PS3 fanboys were supportive for a year and a half until MGS4 finally answered their prayers for a Killer App.

I decided to lose interest?  If this topic offends you so much then why bother writing essays, why not just ignore it?

My analysis is fairly on since the people who seem to think the N64 was so super-great are the most hardcore of Nintendo fans/fanboys since the system had a library made up almost of only Nintendo-made titles. Odd that you would cite the GameCube as your reason to start becoming disenfranchised with Nintendo as the GC had some great 3rd party support. Granted, it got a lot of PS2 ports (as did the Xbox), and lost some of it's better exclusives (RE4, Viewtiful Joe, Killer7, etc), but that system was outstanding.

But if I don't like Viewtiful Joe and Killer7 then those wouldn't be better exclusives to me.  The problem with the analysis is every ones tastes are different.  Just because the gamecube had better third party support doesn't mean it'll always be preferred over the N64.  Just like the Wii, it has a lot of third party support but when you compare that support to the 360 then I prefer the 360 future library.

You don't need to get all pissy, but seriously, you set yourself up for this. I don't really get what your goal with this thread was unless it actually was to rile up the Nintendo folks. Were you trying to get angry people to convince you to keep your Wii? I mean, what was the point; the end result you envisioned with this thread?

Me pissy?  Your post came off as very spiteful... perhaps my OP did too.  The goal was to see if anyone shares my opinion.  I will admit I find these attacks/labeling towards me very entertaining.

Keep in mind that if you wanted to know if good 3rd party support was coming, all you'd have to do is read some articles or other threads. It's been the trend since summer of 2007 that 3rd party devs are focusing a little more closely on the Wii--some, a lot more closely. Again, according to a GameSpot article from last summer, Sega, Capcom, Namco-Bandai, and Square-Enix were all cancelling some projects (at the time, for PS3) to focus more heavily on Wii and DS. Ironic, I know, since the Wii isn't getting the revamped Golden Axe or Bionic Commando. But look at it more positively and pay attention to the news: The Wii is getting exclusivity on the new House of the Dead, Fatal Frame, and Tenchu games, as well as cashing in on the next Star Wars Battlefront and Overlord games. Sure, that's not Resident Evil 5 or Ninja Gaiden II, but so what? That's a sign that some of these companies are in fact taking the system more seriously. You want others to take it more seriously? You need to speak up with your wallet, not your keyboard on a random internet forum. High profile titles like The Conduit and MadWorld could actually start an arms race (in terms of graphics, polish and dedication) of sorts among 3rd party devs where the Wii is concerned. All we have to do it support the games when they're released for it to happen.

If you stick to this tone you may get better results :)

Also, I wasn't attacking you with an insult by accusing you of lying (correct spelling, by the way--future reference), or indicating you had some kind of mental trauma. I tend not to resort to childish name-calling. All I need is my in-born superiority complex. See that? That was sarcasm. Much like the final note of my previous post to you. I know, on the internet, it ain't easy. But that doesn't mean it isn't still fun.

Like I said, I found your post very spiteful not because of the insults alone but because you wrote a serious post.  Maybe if you had put an indicator at the end of your friendly insult, I would have responded less defensively.  Correcting my spelling LOL common ;)
