Forums - Gaming Discussion - An article from a Wii owner who's "Not So Impressed With the Wii Anymore"

The thread is fine. The people attacking it aren't.

I know two people who have sold their Wii's after being dissapointed with the software lineup and a third who is considering it. One guy won the Wii, and decided that he didn't have friends over enough to justify the multiplayer based console so he sold it for full price

...

I don't have an issue bagging the Wii. At least one of my "hard-core" Nintendo friends is border-line HATING the Wii - and for good reasons.

But this article doesn't state any good reasons. I'll bring up the point again that saying "I love old Nintendo games" ... "But I hate the Wii" - doesn't hold - thanks to the VC. Especially when he mentions online (lack of play), but doesn't mention access to Nintendo classics (since he is online after all).

...

PS - my friend is slowly starting to hate the Wii less. He hated Twilight (which I completely understand), and picked up Monkey Ball at launch (crud), Wii Play  (no depth), etc.

But I lent him ExciteTruck which he really likes, WarioWare which he enjoyed. He is now playing Mercury(??) - which he loves, and RE4 which he also really likes. I'm confident by the end of the year his Wii "hate" will have subsided considerably.

meh just another opinion from someone that hates a console. People can hate what they want don't really matter. There will always be choices for people not everyone likes the same thing.

Yea, their are plenty of examples of this for all the consoles, this is rather insinificant.

A delayed game is good someday, a bad game is bad forever.

Issues with the article aside I do think that one of the major issues with the Wii is that some people simply aren't interested in taking time to learn the controls. With old games I would rarely read the instruction or play tutorials. I'd just just jump in, spend a couple minutes pushing every button and roll. With the Wii you really have to read the instructions and use the tutorials and practise. For the most part I think that after learning the motion controls I don't want to play with buttons again but then I have patience and have no problem learning and honing my skills. I also think the added dimension of perfecting your control adds a deeper element to games.

My long time hard core gaming brother had similar issues with the Wii for months. For example, he'd flail about in Godfather and then complain when the game wasn't doing what he wanted. The controls were obviously busted and he wouldn't play for weeks. I finally got him to calm down and think about what he was doing and now he loves the Wii.

I can see how this new situation would cause problems for some. The basic issue is that before if the controls suck, it was because the controls suck. That's still the case sometimes now, but more often, and certainly with Wii Sports, if the controls suck it's because you suck.

Good post, but the Wii is surposed to be easily accesible to anyone, which means it's surposed to do what we want it to do, I know what you mean when you say you must read the instruction book and move the controller exactly how it is intended, but however, On Call of Duty 3 on the Wii where you have to push the guy off of you with your gun, that is the most utter piece of retarded stupid shit I have ever played on the Wii.

Yeah I wasn't very clear there.  I know that's the goal and for the games with a casual appeal that's the way it is usually.  The Wii Sports games are simple motions that when you do them you get the results you want.  Same with Excite Truck, Wii Play, and Wario War.  That was one general point, that there's no reason for that guy to be getting beat by the 4 year old.  My other point that didn't get seperated as much and was bit off topic is that I've found the controls really open up games like Madden, the Godfather, and the Bigs to a much greater level of control finesse if you spend the time practising.  It essentially allows uber casual or uber hard core in a way.  Something EA is taking advantage of with seperate normal and family modes in its sports games on the Wii.  As an even more off topic aside I do wish they would start offering the option to use the classic controller in games, I don't exactly like having to ice down my arm after playing the Bigs for a while.
