Forums - Gaming Discussion - What system was pushed the farthest graphically? (Lots of pics)

Rare also managed to squeeze every last ounce out of the N64. Perfect Dark still looks good today, with its simulated shader effects and dynamic lightning, all at 480i 16:9 widescreen.

The firs post is kinda confusing but interesting thread.

Edit : OH I see what this is now , thought it kinda odd that there were no other consoles cept Nintendo.

The Wii won't see the same leap that previous consoles did , it's closer to it's last gen counterpart than previous generations.

Minish cap ftw that's my favorite gba game :)

If anything...SotC/GoW2/Rogue Leader/RE4 show how much the Wii is yet to be pushed. Isn't the Wii like 4x stronger than the PS2 and GC (or is it 3x with GC?). Yeah...I'm awaiting my games that look 4x better than SotC/GoW2, and 3-4x better than Rogue Leader, thanks,

Tell me how does something look 4x better? How do you determine that? I'm just going to say that super mario galaxy is significantly superior to all of those games mentioned in terms of technical acheivements. You see alot more shaders(Furs,Water Effects, etc) many more polygons, crisper textures, and superior lighting. All this and the game runs at 60fps with no framerate drops. So yep that is about the only Wii game that really seems to set itself significantly apart from those you mentioned. There are others that set themselves apart to too, but that is the only one that does it in just about every area. So I agree, and want to see developers put effort and make all of their games at least close to super mario galaxy in this area. I am fine though with last generation visuals, and I don't even see the HD upgrades as "next generation", in comparison of what the Snes was to the Nes, or the N64/PS to the snes, or even the XB/GC/PS2 to the PS/N64. Yeah I think it has come to the point where better graphics aren't too noticable, despite the technicalities. Though superior technology does allow for some art directions to be acheived easier. So to answer your question, there has been one Wii game to show a significant advance that you want, but I don't see too many from third parties in the future. I do see something from Factor 5, Retro, or any of the other developers that pushed the GC to also push the Wii, since they are very familiar with the hardware, and more specifically the TeV.

@OP The Snes, but I expect my answer to change to DS, by the end of its life.

Maybe a sequel to phamtom hourglass will be the best looking ds game or maybe dragon quest IX.

The SNES and PS2 have seen the largest leaps from launch to last graphical push.

However, Wii will easily overtake that since it wasn't pushed at all at launch making it an easy winner once it actually gets pushed.

GC is by far the least pushed post launch because one of the launch titles would still be considered impressive graphically even by todays standards.

Masschamber, I fully agree with you regarding World Driver Championship for N64.  That game was simply beautiful (and pretty damn fun too).

The rEVOLution is not being televised

Minish cap the best looking Gba game... U sure?

the gamecube's problem is that rebel strike is probably the pinacle of visuals,  seriously it generally runs at 60fps

Looking at that picture just makes me so mad about the state of graphical quality on so many Wii games.  And Rebel Strike still wasn't pushing the GameCube to it's limits.

This is why I can't wait to see what Factor 5 gets out of the Wii.
