Forums - Microsoft Discussion - Rock Band exclusivity deal in the works?

This is complete rumor at this point, but Chris Kohler at the Game|Life blog with Wired Magazine has a picture of the invitation to the Rock Band event at E3 -- the PS3 logo is conspicuously absent. Microsoft has reportedly had a number of closed-door meetings with EA and the Rock Band team. Could it be that some sort of exlusivity deal may be in the works -- timed or otherwise?

Obviously, this is completely unfounded right now, but it's an interesting read, nonetheless. If Microsoft did manage to pull this off, I think it would be nearly as big of a coup as MS pulling GTA4 to the 360.

No where near as big as GTA, even if true.

Guitar games have now been popular for a solid year, and many people who want to own one do.

It also has Guitar Hero 3 as competition.

Guitar Hero is NO competition

If it were, they wouldnt have sold off the IP to Neversoft

They knew what they had planned, and rock band will be HUGE

Mario Party 8 - Rayman Raving Rabbids - Excite Truck - Zelda: Twilight Princess - Godfather - Wii Play

It's a brilliant concept and definitely unique but I have to wonder if the price is going to hurt sales and put it out of the reach of many.

yeah really excited for Rock Band but its the price thats going to make me not buy it

wow. RB exclusivity would be pretty big. Not as huge as alot of other games, but Rock Band (imo) has the potential to bring alot of people, and could counter the whole wiisplosion.

RB could sell ~3m copies in all of it's itenerations, or more. GH2 has done real well thus far on 360, and RB could just increase the fever pitch of titles like that.

Back from the dead, I'm afraid.

oh its not exclusive that poster means its playable on the 360 only at the EA thing where the press were playing it

whoever gets the exclusive for this title stikes a big hit...to me it's the only title coming from this E3 that could get the attention of the media.

2008 year end sales (made in January 2008):

If they were to bundle Rock band with the 360, it could become a system seller. Especially if its an exclusive. You would be surprised at the draw that this genre of games has. I have a few friends who are still hanging onto their PS2 GHII, but if either GHIII or RB isn't available on the PS2 or PS3, the will dive into Xbox world.

BTW I'm going to a music festival this weekend that is going to have the Guitar Hero II world tour!!!

The only problem is that Guitar Hero 2 was $80US/$100Can but Rock Band will cost $80US just for the guitar, $80US for the drums, and $30US for the microphone (if the pricing that was leaked on the Internet is to be believed) and that apparently doesn't include the actual game which would likely be another $40.  I can see some of the people who bought Guitar Hero 2 buying it but I can't see a lot of people spending $400 for a console and then another $200 or more for the game and the peripherals.  Of course considering the PS3 sold a fair amount at a similar asking price I could be wrong about how many people would buy it.
