Forums - Sony Discussion - PSP 3000's hottest feature: Reduced battery life

Well as was pointed out...offices typically have outlets. As for planes, I don't think you're supposed to even have PSPs out because of the WiFi. At least I heard they don't like that even if you say you'll have the WiFi off.

Is it that hard to improve on battery life geez thats the crucial part of a handheld since they'er supposed to have a decent battery. its not just about playing for hours and hours but the hassle of recharging every 4-5 hours which drains the efficiency of the battery and with a long life you dont have to worry about being stranded somwhere without your charger.

Yes... it's VERY VERY hard to improve battery life... there aren't MANY leaps or jumps at ALL in Laptop Computers when it comes to Efficiency vs Power... it's either equipped with Intel ULV to save battery (clocked low) to allow laptop to last up to 10 hours, or just forget about battery life.

The PSP's screen, and cpu takes up a lot more power than the DS. You are comparing PSP and a DS like a Core 2 Duo 2.2GHz with something like 8400Go Laptop vs like a Core Single ULV 1.2 GHz with Onboard Graphics card laptop...

Btw, turning off PSP's wi-fi when you are not using do save battery life.

I never said anything nor compared the two in my post and plus didnt they release a better efficient battery at 2200MAh and discontinued it later on?

@Dogs Rule

I know what games are on the PSP, there's no need to paste a huge list to try and impress me because it doesn't.

If you had bothered to read the introductions to the lists, you'd see that it was of games that can be purchased online therefore that run off the memory card which would reduce your perceived battery life problems despite the fact that most every PSP owner in this thread have been content with the life of its battery.

The last thing I'm desperately looking for is your approval or to impress you.

Again, I'm well aware of those games.  You can list game after game until the cows come home and it still doesn't matter I don't like 90% or more of them.

Wow. That's terrible. Honestly, the battery life is the biggest problem. Why wouldn't they try to fix it.

Then why bother pretending to be interested in buying one. Not enough games you're ready to buy? Not interested in a portable media player with a decent sized screen? Not interested in playing multiple games and videos off a single chip?

If not, save yourself a couple hundred bucks and just stick with the DS if it's ideal for your tastes.

Nobody needs to come up with excuses not to buy something they don't want. "I don't want to have to charge it up, I don't want to buy an extra battery, the screen is too bright for me, it doesn't play DS games, etc. etc."

Don't buy. Save your money.

^ Well said.

I didn't say there weren't enough games.  Actually, if you bothered reading my earlier posts I even said it finally has the library that would make me consider getting it (and the other features -- minus the battery life -- of the 3000 push me over the edge).

My point in saying the list was stupid was because posting a long list of games never impresses.  I can make a long list for any console ever made.  I don't care.  What I care about it games I like, not just some long list of every game available.

As for the battery, that is still a concern for me.  True, I rarely go more than 6 hours without being near a wall socket, but I do like to keep my charger in a single spot.

Take my DS for example.  I can play it a little at home, take it to work and play some more, maybe play during lunch or dinner if I'm there, play some more at home, and even go back to work and keep it in sleep mode for a lot of that.

If I have something with a much smaller battery life, I can't do that.  I always have to make sure to bring my PSP home at the end of the day because I will always need to charge it.  I often leave my DS at work just because I don't always want to carry it around.  When I do finally bring it home I will charge it if I happen to bring it to my room.

That shorter battery life is just more of a hassle.  I don't like carrying around the adapter and I like not having to charge my machine at every available opportunity.  I don't care if you find it easy to charge all the time, I don't.  That's why the PSP3000 turned me back off to the idea of the PSP.

So Finalfan, not well said at all.

If it was a big deal, I'd either pick up a second battery, which is something I do for any electronic hand held item I use every day, or pick up a non-OEM battery with a larger capacity; something I did with the GBA back when I used that system during exercises and didn't always have the convenience of a wall socket.

Two batteries are better to avoid short cycling charges. Let them run dead before swapping them out. They last longer that way.

"But I don't want to buy a second battery."

They do make bigger batteries, so it's really just an excuse.

"It's too f*****g big!!!"

The 2200mAh Sony batteries are still widely available for MSRP $45

I've found 3600mAh batteries for less than $20 US.
$12.95 US

Anyway, I don't need to come up with the obvious solutions since your mind seems set and unable to go with the obvious workarounds.

I'd stick with the DS except the games I have on UMD don't seem to plug in anywhere on the console and I'm having trouble getting it to synch with the PS3 and play remote video. Doesn't... work...
