I am trying to find a good overview of all Sony's 1st party and 2nd party developers. Perhaps you can help me compile a list.

I wonder which are your favorites, and why,  for which game they developed (not necessarily PS3 game)

Level 5, Santa Monica Studio, Insomniac & Naughty Dog.

Level 5 is 2nd party? I'm pretty sure they develop for the DS(DQIX, Prof Layton,Inazuma Eleven) which means not second party anymore.


Definiton of a Second Party: In the video game industry, a second-party developer is a developer who, while being a separate entity from any console manufacturer, is tied to a specific one usually through contract or partial ownership and makes games specifically for that console manufacturer.

Anyway my Favorites are Naughty Dog, and Insomniac.

Edit: Oops missed the part in the OP where you said it is disputed. Sorry.

 These plus Polyphony, Team ICO, Media Molecule and Guerilla Games.

The only things I think you should add is Insomniac's FPS called Disruptor (for the PSOne), as well as the first three Spyro games (for the PSOne).

EDIT: I noticed a few more things that were pointed out by other posters, such as; Insomniac is second party, and Naughty Dog is first party.

You should see Level 5 as a thrid party which has a very good relationship with Sony, but different from insomniac (which is 2nd party).

 I guess you probably should. They only have Console exclusivity with Sony not Handheld Exclusivity.
