Arlando909 said: Final Fantasy is the only major JRPG series in America (at least where installments will sell over 1 million copies). Final Fantasy isn't really that "niche" I would say as most times it manages to sell over 2 million copies. However, Final Fantasy just isn't as big as the Grand Theft Auto series. Ever since Grand Theft Auto III, those games have commonly sold over 6 million copies in the US alone. A Grand Theft Auto game can sell more copies in the United States than a Final Fantasy game can sell worldwide. When Final Fantasy X sold nearly 8 million copies worldwide. Grand Theft Auto Vice City sold OVER 8 million copies in the United States alone.
Even if Final Fantasy XIII gets just as much hype as Grand Theft Auto IV (which is very unlikely) it won't sell more copies or even come close to selling as many copies, even across two systems. |
Took the words right out of my mouth. FF used to be a much more mainstream game in America before GTA and Halo came around. The video game market was quite a bit smaller back then too.
"Naturally the common people don't want war: Neither in Russia, nor in England, nor for that matter in Germany. That is understood. But, after all, IT IS THE LEADERS of the country who determine the policy and it is always a simple matter to drag the people along, whether it is a democracy, or a fascist dictatorship, or a parliament, or a communist dictatorship. Voice or no voice, the people can always be brought to the bidding of the leaders. That is easy. All you have to do is TELL THEM THEY ARE BEING ATTACKED, and denounce the peacemakers for lack of patriotism and exposing the country to danger. IT WORKS THE SAME IN ANY COUNTRY." --Hermann Goering, leading Nazi party member, at the Nuremberg War Crime Trials
