Forums - Sony Discussion - Why all the Sony hate?

First off, on a precursor... I'll start off saying that I probably should not be posting...  because I was out drinking tonight.  It was a good night.

...but!  Why all the Sony hate?  Is it that your pissed off at the things the "top brass" said?  Is it that Sony had the lead for last gen?  Are you so much of a die hard ____ fanboy that you have to be anti-Sony to try to bring the sales down and bring your favorite console up?  Be honest if you can.  Is it an issue with the rootkit by Sony/BMG?  What is it that drives you to hate on Sony?  Does it boil down to simple pricing?  Cell performance?  (This is still debatable... I've programmed on the Cell and I can say most reports on efficiency are total B.S.  The CPU is a powerhouse, the graphics could be tuned, but I don't see it as a "bottleneck" right now.)

The hardware is so far top quality (dependability).  The games are coming.. maybe not as fast as some would like... but they are coming.

Honestly, I'm not looking for a flame fest here.  Any post declaring absolute win/fail should be ignored (I trust you guys to follow this as this forum has had the most "grown up" reactions to things lately...)  Just post your opinion and no flaming each other (again, I trust you to be honest.)

Again, I'm truly sorry if you think this is a trolling post or I'm looking to start some sort of flame war.  In fact, ignore all quotes, ignore all responses, and ignore all disagreements.  I remind everyone to ignore people that "flame" another poster.  Just post your opinion on why you think Sony did wrong... that's it.

It seems the mods need help with this forum.  I have zero tolerance for trolling, platform criticism (Rule 4), and poster bad-mouthing (Rule 3.4) and you will be reported.

For me, its the deceptive hype and,for the Ps3, utter arrogance.us

Shrug, I don't hate them, well, minus them raping Rampart. That made me unhappy.

I just won't be paying what they want me to pay. I like the PS3. Has fantastic potential, but 8 months after release, we shouldn't still be saying "It has fantastic potential, just wait". At least Darkness and Sigma kinda alleviated that.

See Ya George.

"He did not die - He passed Away"

At least following a comedians own jokes makes his death easier.

i have a PS3 and would never found out i watch more movies and surfing the web then gaming on the PS3. Sony needs to make this a gaming machine first then multimedia

I don't hate Sony, but for the moment the sales figures sshows that PS3 is last in the pack. Therefore I argument against them. I do want Nintendo to win this gen but that is because I think that both PS3 and xbox360 is overpriced if gaiming should expand, which I want it to do.

I like Sony, and I think they are doing things correctly if a bit slowly. The Cell is a powerhouse, as you've said, and I believe that the potential most of us are seeing is the precise reason why Sony has claimed that the PS3 will remain a viable console longer than is predecessors.

It is the focus on NOWNOWNOW that's really creating all of this hate, and if people looked at the machine as a console launched two years early to reward early adopters it would bring them another understanding of Sony's intentions. Two years post-launch the system will be properly priced AND have a good selection of games, and that is the point when I see the PS3's life-span as actually beginning. From now until Spring of next year at the least, the PS3 I see is a device released not for gamers but technophiles. Q1 2k8 or Q3 2k8, however, should see the start of the system's life as a game machine.

You do not have the right to never be offended.

Rootkit and their handling of the issue, Lik-Sang, alliwantforxmas, fake games (GT Mobile anyone?) etc.

Sony have screwed customers over again and again. They deserve to be put down for it.

Help! I'm stuck in a forum signature!

I'm not sure if I hate Sony, but definitely dislike the company. They've repeatedly treated their customers like shit, and they're taking gaming in a very, very bad direction.

I wouldn't call it hate for Sony in general, nor even hate for the PS3, but I can't say I like the thing.

First, the price is absurd. If I were willing to shell out $600 for a console, I'd just go all the way and pick up a gaming PC. Not only are the graphics better, the games are cheaper, I don't need controllers, and I can actually put the machine's power to use for non-gaming, and somewhat profitable, applications. Running Linux just doesn't cut it.

Second, I think that, insofar as it is successful, it's going to take the industry in a direction that I won't want to follow. A successful PS3 encourages multi-function platforms, when I'm much more of a fan of the iPod 'we do one thing really really well' philosophy. I see BluRay as a completely worthless extra cost that I'm forced to pay if I want the thing, and I simply don't believe that Sony had good intentions in implementing it - they're trying to leverage their PS fanbase into the format war, just as when MS used to put extra 'features' into Windows that made things difficult for competing third party software.

Furthermore, and most importantly, it's too powerful and difficult to work with. I just don't care that much about the graphical difference between Zelda and Oblivion or Halo 2 and Resistance, but it's definitely the case that it takes developers more time and money to implement these improved graphics. I'd rather a system like the Wii, where a given development team can make a great game in under a year, to a system like the PS3, where a similarly great game takes significantly longer. I'm more than willing to accept the graphics hit if it means shorter development cycles and more games from good devs. No doubt there are other uses for more horsepower, but it's the graphics that drive some of the insane costs we're seeing.

Ultimately, it's just that I'm looking at the PS3 and looking at the Wii or 360 and concluding that there's no way that the PS3 experience is worth the extra $350/$200. I really don't understand what could prompt anyone not a big movie fan to take the PS3 over the 360, and the Wii is cheap enough to already be worth a purchase by anyone who calls himself a gamer. Sure, one could argue that the PS3's big titles so far outshine the Wii's (though I think that many would disagree), but it only costs half as much to play the Wii's games. One expects more from the $600 PS3, and I just don't really see Resistance or Motorstorm being better than Zelda or Super Paper Mario, and they're certainly not sufficiently better to justify the extra cost.
