Forums - Nintendo Discussion - Capcom's thoughts about the Wii

http://www.capcom-unity.com/ask_capcom/go/thread/view/7371/4833615/Street_Fighter_IV_on_Wii_No?num=10&pg=6

"Well if any game performed badly its solely your fault, you expect games to sell by their own without any advertisment. Still I doubt any Wii game underperformed, the only one I can think about is We Love Golf. But you never even advertized it, so don't expect magical numbers.

Apart from that no other game has sold that bad. Even your shoddy ports sold better.

What a bunch of BS.

Advertising doesn't sell a game.

If what you said is true then Advent Rising, which had a huge advertising push would've sold well, but it didn't, it failed.

Stop being a tool and let them answer. At least name a game that sold poorly that was actually advertized?.

Advent Rising.

Why are you ignoring the market leader in your home country? How does
Capcom expect to succeed and please their most loyal fans in Japan,
when they are only willing to release some 5 year old ports or some
terrbile looking shovelware like Neoptez, Spyborgs or RE:UC?

The Wii is the most risky console to develop for, especially when it comes to a new IP, or a game done from scratch on the Wii, because nobody knows what will sell on the Wii like they do on the PS3/360, or rather because the Wii's demographic is so widely split between so many demographics that it's hard to nail down what's successful, or if you bother to check out what third party games sell over a million units you'll see that they're generally ports, party games, etc, etc, with the only exception being RE:UC, which happens to be a Capcom game, so despite all the crap you're saying Capcom made a Wii specific game that was a million seller, and if UC can sell a million units or if it's third party stuff like UC, Rock Band, etc, etc, ie games that aren't big budget, thus it's going to be hard to convince any third party developer to spend alot of money on a Wii title when sales figures show that third party devs don't need to.

Why harm your long time fans? Are you that dumb in thinking that every
Capcom fan owns a PS3 or a 360 in Japan? How can you know if gamers are
willing to buy your games if you never release any, just some ports or
casual crap?

Haven't all of Capcom's 360/PS3 titles done well? So enough Capcom fans must own a PS3 or 360 in order to make those games successful.

Also how many gamers out there are "Capcom Fans" meaning that they buy based upon brand recognition? Cause I bet you it's a small percentage. People that buy Dead Rising, Lost Planet, RE, DMC, etc, are generally fans of those specific games, rather then being a fan of the company.

There aren't many game companies that can sell just on their name alone. Blizzard and Rockstar would be the most famous examples of companies that have "Company Fans" ie the type of fans that will buy any game they put out, but companies like Capcom, SEGA, Konami, etc, don't have that situation because they've grown too big and put out too many games to have that luxury.

Why can Ubisoft, Sega, Activison, EA or THQ make better games (graphics, gameplay, story, value, content) than you?

Really? Name one of their games that goes beyond RE5 in terms of graphics, etc.

Capcom has taken the place of Ubisoft as of know in the eyes of many
gamers... All these lies, insults and discrimination towards Wii and DS
owners are just not tolerable. Ignoring and then promising **** that
will never happen is not OK for a company that was once great, but that
is now slowly dying.

A majority of gamers don't care.

The type of people that are going to Gametop or wherever all the time to buy games aren't really up on company politics and for the most part aren't going to care about all that crap or even know about it. The people like you that complain on the internet about this type of crap represent such a small % of the overall gaming population, and thank god for that, but then again you don't even know what you're talking about , so it's hard to take anything you say seriously.

I wish to know why the upcoming Wii games: Spyborgs (PSP shovelware) ,
Neopetz (DS multiplat game) , Moto GP(PS2 port), Dead Rising (2 year
old 360 port that looks like a DS game) are so damn terrible.

RE4 and RE:UC were million sellers on the Wii, so how could you possibly convince a developer to spend more money on a new Wii game when games like that, that didn't cost alot or are ports can be so successful?

When the other consoles are getting: Dark Void, Bionic Commando,
BC:Rearmed, SFIV, SF2 HD turbo remix, RE5, Age of Booty, Flock, Moto GP
(Main Version), etc, etc.

It's much easier to do those type games on the 360/PS3, ie it's easy to start development on the PC for them, they're easier sells on those consoles, if a developer really wants to push technology with whatever game they have that freedom on those consoles, etc, etc.

Oh and if SF2HD is a HD game, how is it supposed to be on the Wii if the Wii isn't a HD console?

Wii owners should stop buying turds from Capcom, and just wait for the
death of these dirty company. A company that dares to insult their long
time fans and treat them like crap by lying to them and breaking
promises. Ubisoft >= Capcom.

Maybe you should get better informed about what you're talking about so that you don't sound like an ignorant fool.

If you're such a Capcom hater then why are you on here? Do we need to ban you?"

Wow, this is a thread I visited yesterday when a poster here was asking about SF4. It was calmed before, but look what I found when I just visited it again...

The Bold parts are part of an original post made by a user there, the rest is the reply from TAS, a Mod there, who seemed very ignorant about the Wii to say the least. I fear that Capcom shares the same thoughts about the Wii.

What do you think about this? I know he's only a mod, but he sure knows a lot about development costs, etc. I was sadly surprised when I read that RE:UC was a cheap game, and now that Capcom realized cheap games do sell, efforts are not going to take place.

BTW both guys were disrespectful, but that Mod is a dumbass. He shouldn't be answering like that.

Well, Capcom is one of the few 3rd party companies that are really giving a lot of support to the Wii...it may not be the support you're personally looking for, but 'support' is there.

Harsh about the Wii. Do other people feel like this? Maybe

I hope my 360 doesn't RRoD

Wow....those are some pretty disrespectful posters.

What he is saying which is partly true is that there is no need to spend millions on a game for the wii to be successful like they do on The other Consoles.

Unfortunately, even though the wii is winning by a wide margin, it wont get the big blockbuster games because it doesn't  need it.

This is a very strange generation....if what you say comes to pass (and so far, it looks like it), then the Wii will be the 1st console that despite being number 1, doesn't get most "big 3rd party titles".

The 1st generation where they are confined to the 2nd and 3rd place systems...heh, weird.

This is just a mod on the Capcom board replying to a troll as far as I can figure, why is this supposed to be Capcoms official stance?

I own all three current consoles and a great gaming rig, now thats out of the way.

This space Reserved for the Nuggets of Wisdom dropped by Bladeforce:

"Why post something like this when all it will get is PS3 owners blinded to reality replying? BOTH THE PS3 AND BLUE-RAY WILL NOT LAST 3 YEARS! TECHNOLOGY CHANGED TOO FAST!"

"is it Wii FIt that has sold as many as PS3's sold? Thats a LOL Look at the total sales of software is it just me that sees Nintendo titles hitting 10m+ and you say they arent making a difference? Another LOL!"

"Hell, with all the negative hype Sony spin, people just aren't interested cost is too high and to get the true HD experience (1080p, 7.1 surround) you will need a $1000+ system. THAT IS GOING TO DO IT IN A RECESSION! PS4 will not happen"

Atleast it wasn't Camcop this time around.

I saw two very stupid instances there, the people who asked questions in an offensive way and the guy who answered them in the same manner.

I doubt that the people who decide things think the way that the does, it would be just stupid. Although he might have had a few points, which actually contradicted themselves (risky to make a game for Wii, but everything sells on it).

Oh, you didn't know that REUC was a cheap game? It took only (less than) six months to develope.

Ei Kiinasti.

Eikä Japanisti.

Vaan pannaan jalalla koreasti.

Nintendo games sell only on Nintendo system.

RE4 and RE:UC were million sellers on the Wii, so how could you possibly convince a developer to spend more money on a new Wii game when games like that, that didn't cost alot or are ports can be so successful?

That sums up the economics of video games doesn't it. Fuck em

“When we make some new announcement and if there is no positive initial reaction from the market, I try to think of it as a good sign because that can be interpreted as people reacting to something groundbreaking. ...if the employees were always minding themselves to do whatever the market is requiring at any moment, and if they were always focusing on something we can sell right now for the short term, it would be very limiting. We are trying to think outside the box.” - Satoru Iwata - This is why corporate multinationals will never truly understand, or risk doing, what Nintendo does.
