Not in my experience. Its games that people want for the PS3 not a cheaper console. And we are still waiting for the big games such as GT and FF. And they are always getting put back and back.

And that is where the PS3 is tripping up. Only "true gamers" are buying it. Most people dont care for graphics. They want fun and ease of use and the Wii provides that. And that is why the Wii will continue to sell better than both HD consoles.

 

You are talking about the casual gamer market. Wii sells to casual game market. PS3 is a hardcore gaming console that appeals to the 1337 gamer.

In my experience it's the games, the PS3 isn't actually selling badly, it's just not hitting a wide enough demographic a price drop can only extend that so far. It's ALL about the games people, without Wii Sports the Wii wouldn't be nearly as popular, same with the DS and Nintendogs and Brain Training.. I also like using Pokemon as a reason for great Gameboy sales, it definately helped out that platform.

What I'm saying is people ALWAYS associate game consoles with games, If i said to someone to name the first thing to come to their head when i say a word it'd be like this:

XBOX: Halo.. maybe RRoD :P

Playstation: Gran Turismo

Wii: Wii Sports

Maybe not exactly like that but you get the point..

I didn't see anyone posting stuff like this about Sony for the last 15 years when they have been feeding it to Nintendo.

 

I do remember, however, PS2 being something like 70 million units ahead of Cube and Xbox, and still hearing Nintendo/MS fanboys saying how garbage it was.

 

@obieslut - I hope you are right. Considering the PS3's lifespan will no doubt be longer than Wii, it is possible, but like someone else mentioned, it would take a redicolous amount of time at the current rate of sales. So technically there would need to be a slowdown on Wii's part at the same time as a rise in PS3 sales.

I didn't have a PS2. I had an Xbox and was happy with my purchase.

In before this thread gets locked (it'll either be locked for spam or locked for becoming a flamefest).

I think PS3 will finish 2nd this gen, and apparently true gamers are attracted to games like Lair and Haze, if PS3 has more games that appeal to true gamers (compared to the other 2 consoles).

And for most people who don't game, they'll buy the Wii if they see it played at a friend's house.  Some may buy the PS3 for BR movies, but if you are already technophobic, you are going to want a very simple BR player, not one that was designed to play games and btw also plays BR movies.

the ps3 will keep selling by lots and lots and i predict that the ps3 will rise in yearly sales.

2007<2008<2009<2010<2011

then after that it might slowly decline, and have record breaking year in 2011

 

with the Wii

the reded section is up in the air for me, depends how well the Wii does around xmass.
