Do your research just about EVERY major game system these days puts a certain amount of memory next to the GPU,* EVEN the PS3 (the 256MB of VRAM on the RSX). So they ALREADY know how to get around that little hurdle. For example, the unified RAM of the Xbox and 360, and the VRAM of the PS3, are all variants of DDR RAM. The extra clock cycle most certainly gets around having to go through the GPU.

*The original Xbox didn't have its RAM next to the GPU, but the CPU still had to go through the GPU to get to the RAM.

This does not mean either system is more powerful, it just means this isn't proof the PS3 is. 

I think we should drop this crap all together.

So far neither console has proven to be stronger than the other.

Untill then they'll be deemed equally powerfull.

For current gen titles (i.e. those in line with mid/high end PCs at time of launch) both machines are roughly equal - i.e neither is going to do anything amazing the other can't with a title like COD4. For current gen engines/programming approaches 360 is easier to develop for

Both can support nice graphics by console standards

Both can support online play

While both will see more squeezed out of them graphically they're no magic to push them beyond their limits from a 'pretty picture' point of view.

If PS3 has an advantage is lies with other approaches to games. There is no doubt that properly used it does have the possibility of delivering better AI, physics, etc. with same image as a 360 as it does have more processing power.

However, I'd rather a good looking great game than an amazing looking weak game. I guess there's always the strange minority who see graphics rendering as the be all and end all.

The other major (non gaming) difference is while 360 is designed to stream media its not so great as a true media centre. Also, it trails PS3 for movie playback, etc. - and I don't mean BR vs HD DVD or anything like that. I mean PS3 can compete with standalone players and 360 cannot - the reviews, etc. are out there is you doubt this but I think its obvious that 360 is all about a games centric design while PS3 is more balanced for media playback.

But didn't we all know this?

Also, I thought PS2 proved that having fun titles and a broad library that appeals to many tastes will beat more power anyday?

It's not that there's only a 5% difference. There's a LOT of difference, but it's not in terms of being better or worse. they're different, they do different things and each one is going to be better at what it was designed to do.

The answer is quite simple actually, why do gamers upgrade their PCs? Why haven't we all stuck to playing Snes games or Playstation 1 games?

With more power more can be accomplished, games can be pushed further. More enemies on screen, better AI, better graphics, etc. In the end this can result in far more impressive games especially in the game gernes I care about, huge sandbox games (GTA / oblivion), 3D shooters (Resistance 2 / Killzone 2), calculative intens strategy games (Civilization games), etc.

I think I fully addressed this flawed article in another thread. I don't understand why an article which is known to be incorrect and unrearched is dragged here time and time again. There have at least been a couple of other threads about this article.

@SleepWaking. Yes, it is all about the games. At the time Xbox360 have better games than PS3. It is also true that the PS3 have better potential, but gamers does not live on "potential".
