Forums - Sony Discussion - I finally went 100% Sony exclusive and it feels great!

Several times I have posted against either the 360 (for being a poor immitation of a PS3 and/or PC) and the Wii (for having mainly rehashes of games I was interested in playing as a child in the 80s and early 90s but not as an adult today) but was kind of hedging my bets in that I owned not only the PS3 from launch, but also the 360 (from near launch) and the Wii (also from near launch).  I finally sent my Wii and remotes out the door today with the 360 up on ebay ending tomorrow.  So from now on it will only be the PS3 in my house and I have to say I really feel good about it.  OK I also have a gaming quality PC that will play any/all of the good 360 games the PS3 doesn't get, but you NEED a computer so that doesn't count ;).

First off the Wii.  I went to gamestop recently to reserve little big planet (go Kratos Sackboy!) and saw a commercial touting the new "Immagine series innovation, Immagine my diary!".  It was this SUPER lame game based around telling your friends about your feelings and keeping a journal.  This of course made me look behind me at the Wii section...Immagine Poniez, babiez, Carnival Games, my Dogz 2, it was like a shovelwere avelanche!  I thought I had it bad right after the 360 launch but the Wii had without a doubt the worst selection of games I had ever seen (outside the first party titles I already owned and had been less then enthralled with in my advancing over 20 years).  I combined that wall of crap with my memory of the Nintendo E3 conference which more or less promised more of the same for the next year and lost all faith in the system in terms of putting out anything I would be at all interested in playing (ok the conduit looks pretty good, but its not like ANY console is hurting for pretty good shooters).  As a bonus I sold my used Wii and 4 remotes for well over 400 dollars, so there is ONE thing the Wii is great at! Resale value!

Contrasting the Wii with the 360 I'm asking 200 bucks for my premium 360 that was purchased for more then twice that.  I half enjoyed the 360 when there was no high def alternative (and macs couldn't use Windows competently yet) but ever since its peak with Halo 3 (which was surprisingly bad, way worse then the original) its been a downard spiral of fail that seems to have no end.  With the negative Too Human reviews the last exclusive I was at all interested in even trying is gone.  Yes some will say "OMG Gears and Fable!" but if you think I won't be able to play those without a 360 you're kidding yourselves.  Every good 360 game will run better on my gaming quality mac pro then a 360 ever could hope, probably with added content and features ala Fable 1 and Gears 1's PC releases.  There were compelling reasons to own the 360 when it was the only HD console on the market, but now the PS3 exists and is superior in every way.  I should have severed the cord a year ago but have just let the 360 sit there collecting dust (and losing resale value).  I haven't bought a game for the 360 in almost a year and a half so at least I'm not losing too much money on the software front.

All in all I think Sony has finally come into its own enough in this generation that it can start to fully reclaim the PS2 mantle.  That mantle being the only system you really need to have.  I'm glad I finally went through with it, and of course the new 1000 dollars in my paypal account never hurts.  Long live the PS3!

Sing it sister!

Don't you know not to post positive Sony opinions here!?

Lol.

But yeah I think Sony has really come around as well. By the end of this year, if they hit $299, I think it does have the potential to pull PS2 numbers. Only problem is the Wii continues to pull Wii numbers, and PS2 numbers are good enough to top that lol.

ok, great

lol hahahahahaha, there is no chance the ps3 will be anywhere near $299 by the end of 2009 let alone this year.

OT: ?congrats? I guess. Hey, gotta play whatcha like.

@ Jandre I think its only a matter of time. Wii only has big numbers because its more or less alone in its niche. The HD gaming niche is actually bigger still then the casual niche (compare total GTA sales or COD sales with anything Nintendo or another casual game maker puts out for instance) its just that its split between two consoles. If the PS3 keeps on its pace to push the 360 out in the rest of the world and then the US it can eventually pass the Wii.

The PS3 would be the number one console if the 360 didn't exist, without a doubt. I'm just hoping for a Nintendo and Sony only next gen. Honestly they're great compliments to each other, the Nintendo systems are great for families and people who still really like nostalgic gameplay while Sony is great for gamers wanting larger experientially deep games. Of course there's cross over and some will want both (like if I had kids I'd still own both), but neither really eats into the others market. Nintendo sold plenty of N64s even as Sony completely dominated the PS generation for instance.

I don't think I even want to answer to that.

The Bandai Pippin would have been number 1 if Nintendo, Sega, Sony, Panasonic, Microsoft, etc. didn't exist.

How many cups of darkness have I drank over the years? Even I don't know...

That's what people were saying last year about the ps3 dropping to $399.  ;)

That being said, I agree with you.  :P

How are you so confident the PS3 won't drop $100 in a year? You just come off as sounding silly.

My Top 5:

Shadow of the Colossus, Metal Gear Solid 3, Shenmue, Skies of Arcadia, Chrono Trigger

My 2 nex-gen systems: PS3 and Wii

Prediction Aug '08: We see the PSP2 released fall '09. Graphically, it's basically the same as the current system. UMD drive ditched and replaced by 4-8gb on board flash memory. Other upgrades: 2nd analog nub, touchscreen, blutooth, motion sensor. Design: Flip-style or slider. Size: Think Iphone. Cost: $199. Will be profitable on day 1.
