Forums - Gaming Discussion - What are the differences between a hardcore and a casual gamer?

@Ail: The survey didn't say a word about hardcore, so that doesn't have anything to do with this topic. I find some of their categories strange, since there weren't "avid console gamer" and "console online gamer", when PC had the equivalents.

I figured the extreme categorie was hardcore as they are usuallyt used in the same context.

PS3-Xbox360 gap : 1.5 millions and going up in PS3 favor !

PS3-Wii gap : 20 millions and going down !

well i dont fully understand how the hardcore - casual sterotype is played out these days.

i would put myslf in a casual bracket, in where i play games but not in a serious commitment type, for eg getting all achievments etc. i d rather finish the game on easy then move onto another game.

...not much time to post anymore, used to be awesome on here really good fond memories from VGchartz...

PSN: Skeeuk - XBL: SkeeUK - PC: Skeeuk

The NES one?

On topic, for me Casual gamers are NOT noobs (not all of them), they like games but for them gaming is only a hobby. They can play ALL type of games, FPS, sports, music, puzzles, it doesn't matter. They can also spend all their weekend playing videogames, but in the end for them is only a hobby.

Hardcore/Core gamers see videogames as one, if not the most, important hobby. I think the difference between this two is that hardcore games want every game to have the best graphics, sound, story, while those things for the Core gamers have become a commodity, so they prefer gameplay over those things.

Wii Friend Code: 4268-9719-1932-3069

Casual gamers like fun, interesting games regardless of genre.
'Hardcore gamers' love the same old genres with better graphics, and hate Casual gamers.

Wii has more 20 million sellers than PS3 has 5 million sellers.

I would cite regulation, but I know you will simply ignore it.

Ironic that Nintendo like to bounce the terms around more than most to justify their strategy, yet this thread is full of Wii owners claiming to be neither.
