Forums - Nintendo Discussion - Epic: Our games don't appeal to the Wii's crowd.

Epic are a bunch of graphic/power hungry whores (which is not really a bad thing but they'l be missing an oppurtunity)

Around the Network

Epic's comments shouldn't be taken too literally; they are spin pure and simple.

It goes without saying that Epic could make a Wii port cheaply enough that it could have pitful sales and still be profitable. Epic knows this; they aren't stupid. But Epic has other, bigger things to worry about than the chance to make a few dollars off of a Wii port.

Right now Epic and its engines are very well known and well respect by developers and customers alike. They have tremendous brand power within their niche. But if they started putting out games on the Wii,  games with lesser graphics than is expected from Epic, or games with imperfect controls, they could seriously harm their brand. Even one game, if it got enough attention, could drastically change people's perception of Epic - killing their golden goose.

So why might you ask, don't they admit this? Brand power has always been a taboo subject with companys for some reason; few ever admit that they are making decisions for that reason, even though virtually every well known company regularily makes decisions based on protecting their brand. So rather than talk about the real reason, branding, they send out a communicae that will make their hardcore fans feel all warm and fuzzy.

I would buy a Gears game with that control, but as it's likely staying exclusive, that's a moot point. But I might buy a game like that on the Wii.

But users here are still not proof, which is my point.

Hypothetically speaking the Wii mote couldnt control all of the gameplay aspects of Gears.

Actually it could.

Gears doesn't even use all of the buttons on the Xbox360.

I see absolutely no reason why the Wii mote + Nunchuck would be insufficient for a GOW type game.

Aim - Left Trigger
Shoot - Right Trigger
Reload - Right Bumper
Zoom - Right Analog Stick
Melee - B Button
Change Weapons - Directional Pad

TAC/COM - Left Bumper
Quick Look - Y Button

Strafe - Left and Right on the Left Analog Stick
Move - Up and Down on the Left Analog Stick

Nope. Cant even be done with the Wii mote and the nunchuck.

BTW, Little Big Planet is going to flop, because we know games like that don't sell on the PS3.

Doesn't matter that there are most no games like that on the PS3 (or any system).

EDIT: But if any Sony bashers actually claim that's true, they can go f*** themselves. I don't take kindly to bullshit spouters.

Oh so you can see the future can you? well whatever i'll be one of the many laughing at you when your proven wrong. please turn to the exit troll. :P

Even if I don't have a 360 I really liked Gears of War and I'm at the fence with Gears of War 2,really amazing looking game.

Perhaps some of you don't like third person shooters but deny the high quality of GW & GW2 is very silly and just naive, they could develop their games for the platform they want.

IT bothers to me because I have a PS3 and GW are one of the few games that I envy from 360 owners.

But I get over it.

Everyone complaining about their development strategies just show some kind of envious state, perhaps they're moaning a little bit about the Wii,but every company talks trash for the competitors this day,why the shame?

It's not what they said, but how they said it, that's the issue. There seemed to be contempt in the statement. Contempt and anger that the Wii is doing so well. Epic apparently feels that they can protest and spite the Wii by making very clear public statements that they don't support the Wii, and I'm sure they would try to convince other companies not to do so as well.

The way the article is written, is very agressive and insulting to Wii fans and Wii owners. I can even tell that, and I don't own a Wii. Think twice before getting on a soapbox about this one. Arrogance and hatred aren't acceptable from a public figure.

I don't need your console war.
It feeds the rich while it buries the poor.
You're power hungry, spinnin' stories, and bein' graphics whores.
I don't need your console war.

NO NO, NO NO NO.

these guys are getting annoying like sony PR

That's true. No one can make a negative comment about the Wii. Not even Epic. Not even Cliff Blesinsky. Once they learn to make games of the same quality as Wii Sports Resort, Wii Music, and Animal Crossing and put them on the Wii, they'll be able to talk, but not until then.

My most anticipated games:  Whatever Hideo Kojima is going to do next, Final Fantasy XIII, Final Fantasy Versus XIII, Gran Turismo 5, Alan Wake, Wii Sports Resort.  Cave Story Wiiware.

Tell me then....since when has Epic games even cared to make such games?

Fail. You can't just name the controls one one controllers, without comparing the other controller.

A flashy-first game is awesome when it comes out. A great-first game is awesome forever.

ROFL. Show me a game on the PS2/GC/Xbox that looks better than SMG.

Also, the Wii is 4x (or more) powerful than the PS2...so you can't say every Wii game looks bad. Don't games like GoW impress you? What if you saw GoW visuals on the Wii...just 4 times (or more) better? Would you like a game THEN, or would you say it looks like crap anyway just because you're a fanboy?

How about Black ?:
