Forums - Microsoft Discussion - Fable 2 Pub games a good idea or not?

I am really looking forward to Fable 2 but the pub games are they a good idea?  Here is why i am asking.

There are a few potential pitfalls with having these games out before F2. The obvious one is that, if you make tons of gold, it could unbalance Fable 2's difficulty curve - even in a game that hopes to be extremely open-ended. Of course, we won't be able to judge the impact of a pile of free money until Fable 2 itself launches on 24th October.

On the plus side they are getting people synched for the game by releasing something that ties into the game before hand

Will this become a trend?  What do you think

PS3, WII and 360 all great systems depends on what type of console player you are.

Currently playing Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2, Fallout 3, Halo ODST and Dragon Age Origins is next game

I don't like it.

Seems like an easy way of cashing in off the fans. Besides, what do you do if Fable 2 sucks?

"Why do they call it the xbox 360? Because when you see it, you'll turn 360 degrees and walk away"

Then you remember the game is 100% free if you pre-order, negating the notion of cashing in on the fans.

At any rate, pre-launch content for games is a neat concept. I don't think it's a bad thing...If was was planning on pre-ordering Fable 2, I would certainly use the free games to help my character get better.

I want to see more of it - I'd LOVE to see Mass Effect 1.5 come out before ME2 launches next year...That'd be very awesome :)

Back from the dead, I'm afraid.

1. You don't have to pay a dime for the pub games.

2. It is extremely hard to earn a decent amount of gold by playing them. More often than not you end up in debt and have to reset your character. I don't think you're going to see any millionaires at launch.

I think it's a pretty great incentive for preordering. And as Domicinator points out, you'll really have to put in a lot of time and effort to make bank, so I don't think it will be a huge unbalancer.

Actually it's incredibly easy to make money playing it, at least until it gets patched.

We don't provide the 'easy to program for' console that they [developers] want, because 'easy to program for' means that anybody will be able to take advantage of pretty much what the hardware can do, so the question is what do you do for the rest of the nine and half years? It's a learning process. - SCEI president Kaz Hirai

It's a virus where you buy it and you play it with your friends and they're like, "Oh my God that's so cool, I'm gonna go buy it." So you stop playing it after two months, but they buy it and they stop playing it after two months but they've showed it to someone else who then go out and buy it and so on. Everyone I know bought one and nobody turns it on. - Epic Games president Mike Capps

We have a real culture of thrift. The goal that I had in bringing a lot of the packaged goods folks into Activision about 10 years ago was to take all the fun out of making video games. - Activision CEO Bobby Kotick

I'm assuming you found an exploit?  What is it?

^ Really? Do tell.

Edit: Apparently there's a glitch. Found this at Gamespot:

"When playing Fortune's tower on 150-1500 you can place your bet down at the lowest number of 150, after the gate card is layed down, hit Left Bumpter to raise your bet to 1500. The amount of money you'll have put down will be 150, but the multiplier of the money you get back will be as if you put down 1500."

Is that what you were talking about, sinha?

I think it's a wonderful idea. I wish more game would do something like this.

So far I have unlocked almost everything( only 4 items left from keystone tournaments but i hate keystone) and I have 200k in gold. I was told that apparently the most expensive piece of property is 1million so I might grind for that before the game's release. But this 200k took me only an hour or two, a lot of it was wasted unlocking other games.
