Forums - Gaming Discussion - King of RPGs...360 or PS3?

Darc Requiem said:
Its not even up for debate. The 360 has more RPGs out now, more RPG releasing the rest of this year, and more RPGs being released over the next year.

It is debatable about which line up of games can/are/will be better though.

Quality over quantity my friend. More does not always mean better(unless more is the exta quality).

Me Personally.

I really like Mass Effect. Fable II has caught a fraction of my eye. Yet the rest belong to PS3 as MultiPlat or Exclusives.

Other's opinions will differ from mine of course.

btw, these should be added to the 360 list

Commanders: Attack of the Genos
Band of Bugs
Golden Axe: Beast Rider
Huxley
Venetica
Dragon Age: Origins

Puzzle Quest

half of those arent even RPGs, the other half I dont know lol

Was this a joke?

what do you mean they arent?

I think Beast Rider is going to be hack and slash rather than an action RPG. Are Band of Bugs and Commanders SRPGs? I was under the impression that they were regular strategy games.

But I should think Puzzle Quest: Challenge of the Warlords and Puzzle Quest: Galactrix would both qualify.

Why did you put MMO's on that list? Things like FFXI and Age of Conan are completely different beasts.

I pretty much put in anything with an RPG tag line in it. Action RPGs, Strategy RPGs, Stealth RPGs, JRPGs, MMORPGs, etc.

They all hold the name so they deserve to be listed.

Although I was a bit split on putting in games that already existed in last gen that are just ports (FFXI, Phantasy Star Universe). It seems a bit unfair to have those kind of games in there.

Sakaguchi, personal opinion, is a washed up game designer. His games are o so uninspiring to me. All of his games are blatent rip offs of it SE roots. Blue Dragon=Dragon Quest(as much as I hate the both of them DQ is better). Lost Odyssey=Final Fantasy (9; and I found LO to be frustrating with its rediculouly slow combat even for turn based, bland character designs, and a loop warm story by any standard). Well that last part about the story may not be accurate as I did not complete the game. Yet as far as I had gotten I was not amused by the story or the wierd flashbacks with the super intensive light sources(rly, y so bright?).

Thx for the other adds, I edit them on the list....

Sakaguchi IS SE's roots. I don't know how you can call the original a ripoff. Lost Odyssey was not a superb entry in the JRPG world, but it was pretty darn good. And it was damn sure better than FFX or FFXII.

Ha, ha. FFX is the last of Sakaguchi's great works...

Now thats just silly. FFXII maybe, and thats a big maybe, but better than X? The second best selling in the series? I think not my friend. FFX was a superb story and had great character development. Yea Tidus was winey, but that was his character, it was what they were TRYING to portray. The sphere grid leveling/ability system can only be rivaled by the materia system.

Lost Odyssey and Blue Dragon are the only titles Sakaguchi has worked on since his departure from SE. If neither of them are spectacular in any way how is he a good developer? Even if you think LO is "Good" everyone agrees Blue Dragon was "TERRIBLE" so how does that prove his worth?

Sakaguchi did not come up with the story plots, character designs of any of FF games, he simply directed them. Those awards go to Amono, Tetsuya, and Akido.

First of all I thought Artoon made Blue Dragon while Sakaguchi lended them a hand and stamped his brandname on it. Also the game wasn't terrible but most people complain that it has a very "kiddie" story. Second do you understand what a videogame director does? He puts all of those aforementioned things together and makes them work. A great story won't get you anywhere if the rest of the game sucks and vice versa.

Love the product, not the company. They love your money, not you.

I think it's alright to make it fairly broad and say things like Oblivion and FFXIII can be on the same list but MMO's just appeal to a completely different crowd.  If I was looking to buy a console based on its RPG's I wouldn't give two craps about DC Universe Online.

As for counting things like Phantasy Star and FFXI (assuming we want to count that :P) I think it's alright since it appears on that system.  They're older games but the 360 is the older system.

i was just going by what gamefaqs said about beast rider.  the person who reviewed band of bugs on game faqs said it was a srpg.

360 for sure! After hearing of FFXIII coming to it, and seeing all the other rpgs availalble in addition to ones coming out within the next year that I want, I went ahead and grabbed one myself. Good thing I don't have the whole brand loyalty thing going on!

Ah. I'll have to look into Band of Bugs. I've been on the fence about downloading it, and if it is an SRPG, it's a definite buy for me.

360 has the better RPGs at the moment, but none of that matters because it depends on a person's taste. White Knight Chronicles is by far one of my most anticipated games, not just in the jRPG genre, but overall so it's safe to say that watever platform thats on, Im going to flock to that. Also, if some of the jRPGs that are rumored to be ported to the ps3 actually do go multi-plat, that would make it an even easier choice for me (I don't like WRPGs), but like I said, it all depends on the person.
