Forums - Sales Discussion - PS3s no longer sitting on shelves. What's the deal?

so 2 wal-marts selling 4-5 a peice... in 1 week... Rember how many that truely is you count 5,000 wal-marts... that's 25,000 PS3's in 1 week... at wal-mart... alone. :P I'd say PS3 sales HAVE picked up... they just started to pick up the last week of january for some reason... so I dont think it will be seen to highly on January sales.

Well, you're working with the assumption that they all get weekly shipments. That seems unlikely considering there's the implication that there were zero PS3s before the shipments.

Whatever happened to the "I don't know about your metro area but in mine...." when we were talking about Wii sellouts and PS3 sitting on shelves?

owned.

LEFT4DEAD411.COM
Bet with disolitude: Left4Dead will have a higher Metacritic rating than Project Origin, 3 months after the second game's release.  (hasn't been 3 months but it looks like I won :-p )

ok let me give an example. Walmart had 3 PS3s. You come back in 7 days. They have 3PS3s. That means 5 of them have been sold? IF there was a shipment in the middle of the week... more than 5 were sold. So lets say they got a shipment of 5 in... wich I think is normal. That means they sold 10 PS3s. Let me re-work my math. Walmart is selling 50,000 PS3s a week, or 200,000/month with those numbers. As for my wal-mart, I know they are getting 2-6 Wii's a week. and 4-10 PS3's a week. Both are selling out before the shipment comes the next week. Am I saying the PS3 is selling better than the Wii. No. Am I just doing math for numbers you people provide? Yes.

I think I should put out a comparison to the "Amazing" 5 systems sold in a week ... At the exact same Walmarts they have been releasing their Wii stock on Saturday (usually about 15 to 25 systems in a week) which sell up based on people who are at the store when it opens; I know this because I have stood in line for my brother at one while he stood at line at the other so that he could get his system.

What do those iTrackr numbers mean anyway? They tell you zero about sellthrough. For sales numbers just wait for NPD.

Hardcore gaming is a bubble economy blown up by Microsoft's $7 $6 billion losses.

If this thread proves anything, you really shouldn't try and extrapolate console sales numbers based on "I saw four on the shelve yesterday but now they're gone!" Fortunately, the public school board has also realized this, and has recently taken "Kwaad Math" off the curriculum.

I'm a mod, come to me if there's mod'n to do.

Chrizum is the best thing to happen to the internet, Period.

Serves me right for challenging his sales predictions!

Bet with dsisister44: Red Steel 2 will sell 1 million within it's first 365 days of sales.

You mean anecdotal evidence isn't always true?

They give you an idea on how many stores in the country actually have PS3s. It tells you nothing about actual sales numbers except that PS3s are in fact selling. Itrackr only looks at Circuitcity, Gamestop, and Target, I think, so it definitely doesn't take all the major retailers into account, but again, it gives you an idea on availibility of PS3s. Sony's shipments seemed to slow down earlier this month, but it seems they've been ramped back up, probably because they're no longer air shipping them to America as someone mentioned above. Itrackr has PS3 national availibility up to 56% now. Perfect timing for another shipment considering all the releases for the next 6 weeks.

My Top 5:

Shadow of the Colossus, Metal Gear Solid 3, Shenmue, Skies of Arcadia, Chrono Trigger

My 2 nex-gen systems: PS3 and Wii

Prediction Aug '08: We see the PSP2 released fall '09. Graphically, it's basically the same as the current system. UMD drive ditched and replaced by 4-8gb on board flash memory. Other upgrades: 2nd analog nub, touchscreen, blutooth, motion sensor. Design: Flip-style or slider. Size: Think Iphone. Cost: $199. Will be profitable on day 1.
