Forums - Sony Discussion - What if Sony kept the Boomerang?

I think the only thing that is going to change the Playstation controller is a Sony branded modification of the Sixaxis that sells well. I believe this is what happened with the original controller that didn't have analog sticks. They sold so well that Sony adopted it for the PS2. I don't mind the Sixaxis at all (in fact, I love the stick placement over the shifted 360 placement) but I wish it were slightly bigger and rounded.

It seems the mods need help with this forum.  I have zero tolerance for trolling, platform criticism (Rule 4), and poster bad-mouthing (Rule 3.4) and you will be reported.

That looks very ungainly. If that were the actual controller it would put me off buying a PS3. I'm glad they didn't go with that!

I wish they had kept the boomerang, since it would have actually been an improvement on the awful grips of the PS1/DualShock/SIXAXIS controllers.  I don't think that exact boomerang would have been good, but one with the buttons slightly closer together, and the overall design a bit more compact would have been much better than the SIXAXIS.  Of course, just because it looks silly, everyone would have made fun of it just like the N64's "three-pronged attack dildo."  Honestly, Sony just needs to get over themselves and actually attempt to improve their controller.

The controller is not even the same as the original dualshock, so don't even start on that crap. Plus the boomerang looks like shit.

Am I correct that the boomerang controller's R2 and L2 buttons were placed around the middle of the backside of the controller while the R1 and L1 buttons were of course on top?

If so, I think the boomerang would have been a lot more comfortable for a game such as Warhawk. I usually only have my index fingers on top of the controllers and it feels weird when I need to use both my index and middle fingers to fly the planes in Warhawk or try and take cover and open the map in Rainbow Six: Vegas. *edit* then again, it mainly feels weird because of the R2 and L2 triggers on the Sixaxis. I'm thinking about trying to flatten the tops of the triggers or carve a little dip in them to better hold my fingers.

Amen, I can't stand the sixaxis

The boomerang wouldn't solve most of the sixaxis issues, but it would likely be more comfortable.

Then again, I didn't let the crappy controller prevent me from buying a PS3, unlike some of the Sony fans....

Had the motion-sensing capabilities been announced when they were showing off the boomerang?

 Yes.

 No it wasn't

Motion sensing was announced at E3'06, long after the batarang's death knell

This was one of my favorite moments in Sony PR.

@PS3owner: You're right, I'm sorry, it's less than the DualShock.  No rumble.  :P  Seriously though, you missed my point.  SIXAXIS = DualShock - rumble + acceleromter + inferior analog triggers.  I'm not saying it doesn't have more features than the DualShock, I'm saying they should have looked at improving the basic design.  It looks like the boomerang was one of their attempts at doing so.
