forgot to mention ,,,
ffxiiiv looks hot ,, if the game stays exclusive i'm telling the sales of ps3 wont be affected that bad ,, a lot of people of waitng for both of the games ,,
the only reasons right now why i don;t have a 360 are versus and warrenty issues,,
because frankly ps3 is expensive and i love RPGs :)

Good piece dude I enjoyed reading. I am not sure how much I agree with the fact that people were going to buy a PS3 for FF13 though. Final Fantasy is easily my favorite video game series [FF7 is the greatest game ever made]. It shouldnt be a surprise, then, that ff13 is my most anticipated game of the moment. I also agree that titles like Halo 3 push consoles...but does Final Fantasy really do that?

I know several people that bought a PS3 for MGS4...but noone I know ever likes Final Fantasy the way that I do.

Well researched. I definitely have to give you credit for that. I wish you could help me write my school essays lol.

OT, M$ really can't compete with nintendo (who is already the true winner this gen) so the only other option is to try to destroy the PS brand. Thats how M$ works. M$ can't get a stronghold on yet another industry. Watch them go after nintendo next-gen. Why do they still monopolize the OS market again? I won't be surprised if they pay Miyamoto to retire early or switch sides lol.

This has been said before, but since you obviously did a lot of work, I won't flame you, or own you in any way. This topic largely gets a Zenfoldor pass:

However, let me just comment on a few things. First let me say that FFXIII is being developed exclusively for the PS3 right now, and then will be ported over. It's good that great games like this go multiplat, even if it does piss you off. You bought your console on the assumption that FF would be exclusive, and buying a PS3 was the only way to play it. That was your assumption. If Sony endorsed it, you should be mad at them, not Microsoft. It doesn't matter if Microsoft paid or not, if they did, it should make you more pissed as Sony for not matching their offer. There is no evidence that they paid, however.

The HD consoles aren't selling as well as they should be. Therefore, many 3rd party games will go multiplat. This is good for gamers, even you. You'll get more games for your PS3. The game doesn't magically turn from good to bad when it gets a 360 port. That's just your fanboyism making you think that. Fanboys will always like exclusives more than multiplats. They have to hype them up, so they can justify their console purchase, and entice others.

As far as those "full specs of the PS3" that's a talking point, always has been. There is virtually no discernable difference between the HD consoles graphics, never has been, never will be. That was a myth perpetrated by Sony, that less knowledgable gamers still cling to. The PS3 isn't gonna magically unlock itself one day. Last wave PS3 games aren't gonna magically destroy last wave 360 games. The consoles have very similar graphics. Only a fanboy would disagree with that. Also, Blu-Ray isn't really needed for gaming, it's a marketing tool. Acting like changing discs is an issue is again, a faux complaint. LO has 4 discs, and changing them took me about 30 seconds, for a 40 hour game. It was alright with FFVII, it's alright now. Pretending that it makes a large difference is again, fanboyism.

I'm simply stating my opinions here, nothing more. A more thorough commentary will not be forthcoming, because again, you've worked hard. Examine things a little more carefully, when you make a large post like this and you won't fall under scrutiany. I'm afraid you might see some trolling on this topic.

Blu-ray does have other advantages, there is nearly no issues with scratches, and my disc of LO seems to be slightly damaged, so frankly, blu-ray is a lot better, not just because of easier storage in the discs, but having less scratch issues is a major boost

less disc scratching isn't a major boost. I don't even think its a minor boost. But I'm not here to argue about plastic.

FFXIII gives more people the chance to play it. Personally I couldn't care less about whether or not its multiplat, but crying and complaining about it constantly isn't gonna change that it is what it is. If you want to thank anyone for making it go multiplat, you can thank $ony.

GOTY Contestants this year: Dead Space 2, Dark Souls, Tales of Graces f. Everything else can suck it.

There's a problem when your console is identified with third party games - MGS, FF are two that come to mind.  You're angry that SE has "betrayed" Sony because they want more money?  Why not point some blame at Sony, instead, for selling so few consoles?  In that case, they wouldn't have to worry about FF13 not doing as well as it could (were the userbase larger).

Let's wind the clock back a few years - to the SNES days, when all games were on Nintendo systems.  Yes, that includes FF1, 2, 3, 4, 5, and 6!  Square then went to Sony's side, for a number of reasons.  Notice how FF has jumped ship before?  It will do so again, if there's more money to be made.  If Sony doesn't do well, do you expect all third parties to follow them to the grave out of loyalty?  You should be happy FF13 is still arriving on the PS3, FF7 (or any future FF) didn't even make it back to Nintendo systems.  To those that think, "Oh, but PS3 will rise above all in time!!"  These people have their money on the line, they have much more to lose than hopeful fanboys.

It seems you're placing all the "blame" out to Microsoft & SE, acting as if Sony was the helpless victim here.  The truth is, this is business, not charity.  SE was counting on Sony to perform better than they did (selling like the Wii), so they put themselves in this position.  The moment DQ9 was announced to hit the DS, Sony should have been aware of the possibility of this happening.  Third parties have more loyalty to money than to anything else - perhaps this is a lesson to be learned, mainly to Sony fans (since they had the leading console since PS1) - companies didn't stick on the Playstations because they were in love with Sony, but rather, the large userbase that came with it.

I understand you think SE is in a great position, doing so well and they don't need the money.  However, that isn't the case - dev costs have been rising, and as their constant FF remakes have shown (even a Chrono Trigger port to DS), they're desperate for cash.  The rise of the DS / Wii is also something different they may not quite understand.  Milking DQ and FF will not keep them alive forever, so they need any help they can get.

Anyway, the whole thing isn't as big a deal as you make it out to be - the PS3 hasn't been selling that great, so these things will naturally happen.  Even if the quality of the game takes a hit, I doubt it would be noticable.  It's also unreasonable to think that even if Sony's console isn't the leader, it will still have a monopoly on all the games.  Just ask the Ninty fans - the SNES > N64 losses were much worse, imo.  Hell, even when the Wii is dominant SE still doesn't take it seriously.  On the bright side - Sony is still getting FF13, and versus is still exclusive.  If you want my opinion though, it's better not to stick so closely to one company, as it doesn't do you any good.  It looks to me like you're thinking Sony is this flawless being, but honestly, they're just another company.  It may be true that MS has made it their job to hurt Sony, but Sony's entrance didn't exactly help Nintendo, either.  In the end, it benefits gamers when companies have to fight like this for our money.

@Pristine: haha, if Miyamoto could be bought, I imagine somebody would have taken him away long ago

even being a sony fan, i really dont care much that this game has gone multiplatform
all itll do is show people the technical inferiority's of the 360

"'Casual games' are something the 'Game Industry' invented to explain away the Wii success instead of actually listening or looking at what Nintendo did. There is no 'casual strategy' from Nintendo. 'Accessible strategy', yes, but ‘casual gamers’ is just the 'Game Industry''s polite way of saying what they feel: 'retarded gamers'."

I have a PS3, i played FF vii and xii, loved vii & liked xii. Was i shocked, yes. I'm i angry, not really. A bit miffed that i will have to wait a little longer for the regionalised version but what ever. Now if only someone would announce Mass Effect for the PS3!
