Forums - Nintendo Discussion - Key Weakness of the Wii - Graphic Capabilites?

What I can't figure out is why people keep saying that Zelda and Mario are the same over and over again. Like any GTA or Halo has been so different. And that go's for any series game. Will Gears 2 be that much different than the first? Most likely not.

That's exactly my point though. I see Wii owners saying that HD consoles only offer more of the same, while the most popular games on the Wii are essentially more of the same too. It's the double standard that gets me, not that there's anything wrong with game sequels and building on established franchises.

The wii's most popular games are more of the same with a different controller. As opposed to more of the same with the same controller.

Was there any console which had a short lifetime due to graphics?

Just the PS2. That ugly slow blocky pixely laggy pile of shit only lasted 8 years... so far.

huh ?

mighty PLAYSTATION 2 lifespan was short due weak graphics ??

i believe SONY's success in the gaming devision bothers you(i could be wrong)

How well did Okami, Killer 7, Psychonauts, Ico, and Katamari Damarci sell on the PS2?

Those games are far more niche than Boom Blox, so I don't buy that excuse.

So two adventure games (Okami and Ico) which you can argue have a lot in common with a game like The Legend of Zelda (which constantly sells in the 5+ Million range) are niche titles of limited appeal?

Zelda is an established franchise with a huge fanbase.

If you are making the argument that they all appeal to the same market, then the only difference between them is the one that outsells the others by 10-1 is the Nintendo first party title. No surprise there.

Developers are very Lazy. I hope The conduit brings good graphics. And makes other developers to make there games better.

So bring an excuse each time you get shot down?   Did you note recently that Capcom announced Okami on Wii (a long dated port with no upgrades and no TV advertising on a console with 1/4th the install base) just sold as much as the PS2 release and it's still selling each week?

So, which excuse to you plan to use on that one?

The rEVOLution is not being televised

So bring an excuse each time you get shot down?

I bring a reason, not an excuse.

All that means is that sales were shit on both systems. How do you think the game would have done if it was a first party title?

@the bloodwalker: Nintendo is the risktaker that shows the way. How did Twilight Princess sell? Or SMG, MKWii, Brawl. None of the games i mentioned are the kind of games that would require special innovation, they just are quality-made games with well polished gameplay. And that's what the followers will follow. One of the ideas of releasing the big guns early, was to show software sales potential and create a userbase for specific genres (among with keeping demand high).

I'm talking about third party games and game genres that Nintendo does not develop

Where do I start…………?

The Wii’s key weakness is not it’s graphics, it it’s library. Most people here are already aware of the 3rd party situation, so I won’t get into that.

What I will get into though, is this stupid notion that graphics are everything. Yesterday, I just played the PS3 for the very first time in a house, not Gamestop. I played Call of Duty 4 first then I played Metal Gear Solid 4. Mind you, this was on a 52’ (or 56’, not sure) HD television. The graphics did not WOW me at all. They meant absolutely nothing to me whatsoever. The environments in Call of Duty were meh, and the only thing worth mentioning was the graphical detail on their faces, but I’ve already seen that in Gears of War. MGS4 wasn’t the visual fuckfest I heard so much about either. The only thing that I cared about was how poor Old Snake didn’t know how to use a gun. I was honestly kinda sad about that. Then, after I left my friends house, I had a Eureka moment….. graphics aren’t shit! They meant absolutely nothing to me. COD4 and MGS4 are not bad games at all mind you, but I did not see what the big deal was. I am a Wii60 owner myself and I don’t understand how you can criticize the Wii’s graphics when the difference is nothing but a few bells and whistles. Roast me all you want, but the only graphical difference to me between Red Steel and Call of Duty 4 was the graphics on the 1st person hands, and the faces on Sergeants and commander people, not even their clothes were that much of a leap. For a system that Sony fans depend so much on in the graphics department, I wasn’t impressed. I buy games to play them, not watch em’.
People say:

“Oh, well all Nintendo does is rehash the same Zelda, Mario, Smash Bros, and Metroid”

Well, even if they do, aren’t they good and fun to play? Everybody wants to forget that simple FACT. It’s not like they come out with sequels that suck like Sonic games. They are all good. What happened to Crash Bandicoot and Lara Croft……………………………

The Wii’s inferior graphics separate it from the same exact multiplatform games on the PS360. If the graphics were HD as well, we wouldn’t get any creative games. You think there would be a need or attention for LittleBigPlanet if casual players weren’t an interest to the industry? Heck no. I don’t know how much it will sell, so I won’t throw figures out, but it would probably go the same way as other PS2 games of its kind, or not anywhere at all.

Trust me, Nintendo has flaws, I’m not blind enough too not admit that, every system does. However, this graphics crap is a myth that has been blown way out of proportion and needs to be busted. Devs that have made effort in the ways of new experiences on the Wii have reaped the benefits. The birdmen that emulate Nintendo’s success and fail use 3rd party sales as a scapegoat for their poor sales. Tell me why most devs that say AAA games don’t sell have never made a game for the Wii or made a AAA game for it. Give credit to High Voltage who are trying to make something no one else has recommended them to do. They are trying to address the Wii’s true flaw, the lack of genres touched in its library.

I’m done for now, but when more stuff comes to me, I’ll make sure I HOLLA. The graphics stuff is fabricated garbage that tries to make Nintendo’s success look bad. I’m gonna go play Gears now………

Leatherhat on July 6th, 2012 3pm. Vita sales:"3 mil for COD 2 mil for AC. Maybe more. "  thehusbo on July 6th, 2012 5pm. Vita sales:"5 mil for COD 2.2 mil for AC."
