Forums - Gaming Discussion - Who else is sad that Nintendo is winning/won this gen ?

I could care less what the so called "hardcore" think about the Wii. I like it A LOT. (almost as much as my Ps2.) The more it sells, it only means I have more people to play against in Brawl, Moh:h2, Mkwii, and other future online games like The Conduit.

I just wish nerds would stop coming to the internet and writing freakin essays on the Wii.

"Wii don't Deserve Success"

"Fad = Wii"

"Where the Games At"

The games are coming. (hell many have already arrived. Lots among this gen's best and among the all time best.)

So, pretty much what I'm trying to say to the nerdly "gamers" shut the hell up, suck it up, don't be a bitch, and grow a sack!

You know... maybe you take this a bit too seriously.

Nintendo is only trying to make gaming more mainstream. It won't kill the "hardcore" game, just reduce their relative importance.

How many cups of darkness have I drank over the years? Even I don't know...

Oh boy, depression already? You'll soon be on your way to Acceptance in no time. Good for you!

(Still, looking around, there are plenty of Denial's and Anger's around. And from the looks of it, they have a while to go...)

Now if you excuse me, I'll be playing Okami and Boom Blox, and having fun.

ha ha, I was going to do this myself. It's so true. The supporters for the incumbent are falling inline exatcly by the standards of disruption and a paradigm shift. Though I don't recall much of a Bargaining phase.

My opinoin. I'm honestly sad that the the third parties haven't figure it out yet. If Wii games are so much cheaper and the PS2 weakest of all consoles was acceptable. Spouting style... why do they stick with the least install base.

So no I don't agree. Everyone has their own tastes. This generation will not change the games you are getting. Keep in mind that lat gen the PS2 was far cheaper to make games for. So it was easier for developers to produce more God of War like HARDCORE games. Theres some fallacy that the developers wallets have increased with this gen. It hasn't it's the same amount mnaybe even less. Now they have to pay more per game. Which means that money must be diverted from other projects. If you are happy that this gen is about less of the games you care about. Well that's fine, but don't blame the Wii for that. You Blame Wii for having few games you like then comment about how Devs don't make games for the Wii. You are completely saying that Wii does not have developers, so where is the slew of games if they aren't making them for the Wii?I will restate.

With the advent of the HD consoles there is no magical increase in the money they have to spend. Production costs are way up. That screams less games per year. So instead of blaming high dev costs of the HD consoles that you love so much. You blame another company? Does that make sense? Nope.

If a Budget is 100%, PS2 games cost 10% of budget that's 10 games. PS3 has a 30% cost of the budget that's only 3 games. Simple?

OK let's move on to the next part of the silly argument. "Hardcore don't by the Wii" Ok got it. No hardcore buys the Wii except for Wii fans. This means that last gen market has and is shifting to the PS3/360. Ok so most of the Wii owners are not Hardcore fans. Who don't buy God of War. Ok that's the argument logic there. This logic has no impact on the number of games made for the PS3 and 360. By previous hardcore on consumer logic the Wii has no effect on the hardcore.

So wheres the slew of massive games. You are sad that theres less of them. It comes down to what I said before. Ok so then are there less games of the PS3/360 than last gen if the Wii doesn't have the hardcore demographic. Go ahead be sad, be frustrated. Just make sure you know who to really blame and for what reasons.

maybe there is the possiblity that with an increase in the general market and consumers buying more games. That "artists" like Kojima.... will continue to have money to make future Hardcore games. Increased wallet means more support for games you want. The only difference is that now the store shelf space is going to have games that appeal to a wider demographic. That's a bad thing? Your saying that making more money is a bad thing? That's not common sense. Theres another word for that.

Squilliam: On Vgcharts its a commonly accepted practice to twist the bounds of plausibility in order to support your argument or agenda so I think its pretty cool that this gives me the precedent to say whatever I damn well please.

Baah don't compare PS2 games to Wii games now, atleast wait until the Wii been out for atleast 3 years, beacuse frankly most of the PS2 games that were released the first couple of years sucked just the same way it is for Wii now.

The only difference is that game companies started develop games for the PS2 years before it was released.

If it isn't turnbased it isn't worth playing   (mostly)

Million, what the hell are you doing making threads like this now? Do you have a life? Did you skip breakfast to make this crap. It's very sad of you.

If anyone made a thread like this on the Ps3 or 360, they would've been blown to the head. So, it ain't fair.

I call for a thread lock.

As for the 'casual' games, you should be praising them. Every gamer starts out as a non-gamer, then becomes a 'casual' gamer, before graduating to 'hardcore'. The first game I ever played was some hilariously bad Mickey Mouse game for the original NES, and if it wasn't for that game I wouldn't be playing games now. In 5-10 years, you're going to be seeing a huge surge of girls who started gaming on Horsez find their way into the market as adult, 'hardcore' gamers.

you graduate from Casual-gamer to Core-gamer, not hardcore. A hardcore gamer is a true gamer, some one who set out to master the games he plays. A hardcore gamer is neutral gamer who has no console preference.

I'm not entirely sure what you're arguing. I'm arguing that everyone starts out playing games that are easy, the same way everyone crawls before they walk. Are you claiming that hardcore gamers go from never having played a game before to playing Halo 3 without any steps in between?

Wii has more 20 million sellers than PS3 has 5 million sellers.

love the nod to Baster Master (easily in my top five list of NES games)

I also don't understand this....

If people who dislike the Wii, well hate it, and they like their Ps3 or 360, then why would they not just play their "superior" game? Why the hell do they stop the game, go to the pc, load up their web browser, go to vgchartz, log in, and make a thread on the Wii bashing it?

If that's the case, then their console must be boring if they want to jump on the internet and make a random hate thread.

The wails and mournings of the hardcore continue into the twilight of the Cinematic Cycle's day in the sun. Bemoaning the fate of their beloved hobby, they refuse to listen as the wise men tell them that this is nothing new and that the future still holds bright things. All they can see is the setting of that movie-esque sun, and the demise of a genre that they thoroughly entrenched themselves in, and the creeping sunrise of the Social Cycle's sun, with its games focused on many players doing simple but fun tasks together.

"Petty!" one of the hardcore scoffs, "Shallow! Unrefined! I shall never play such dregs! Send them away and give me my Metal Gear Solid!" But nobody answers their cries, and the Cinematic sun continues its inevitable descent, the Social sun its inevitable rise.

A lone figure approaches the angry hardcore who cried out. "Why do you belittle the Social Cycle? It is young," the figure reasons.

"Pfah! Look at it! All cheesy party games! Not a single good game in there!" the hardcore declares, spitting bitterly on the ground.

"But," says the unknown man, "what of games like Mario Kart Wii? And Super Smash Bros Brawl? Are these not games which appeal to your tastes?"

"Speak not the name 'Nintendo' to me!" the hardcore yells, angrily. "I will only hear the names of 'Microsoft' and 'Sony' uttered in my presence!"

"Why?" the stranger asks, bemused.

"Because...! Because...!" the hardcore struggles to find words. "Because I hate Nintendo! They've killed gaming!"

"Ah," says the stranger, nodding knowingly. "Turnabout is fair play, you know. When your Cinematic sun rose, do you know what those who worshipped the Arcade sun said? Much the same as you, that Nintendo had killed gaming."

"No!" the hardcore shouted, angrier than ever. "Nintendo did not bring the Cinematic sun to us! It was Sony! Sony! SONY!"

The stranger shook his head. "You know not your history, I see. Pray tell, did you ever play the Nintendo Entertainment System?" The hardcore shook his head. "Well, let me show you the start of the Cinematic sun's rise, then."

Just then, a large screen popped up, and Final Fantasy started playing on it. "That doesn't count!" the hardcore yelled.

"Why not?" the stranger asked, bemused. "It's most definitely a cinematic game, albeit one of the earliest. And here it is, on a system which predated the PlayStation by a decade. You see, Nintendo brought about your beloved Cinematic sun just as they've brought about the Social sun."

"It doesn't matter!" the hardcore yelled, sounding desperate. "Nintendo didn't give us the greatest Cinematic games, Sony did! And the third parties that supported Sony! Nintendo abandoned the Cinematic game!"

The stranger smiled. "Yes, they did. Because the Cinematic style was proving to be unprofitable. Tell me, what do you think is the most important thing to a company that makes video games?"

"That they make good games!" the hardcore said, mildly irritated at such an obvious question. "Why are you laughing!?" he demanded as the stranger chuckled.

"Poor deluded gamer," the stranger said, shaking his head. "The ends do not make the means. Companies that make video games value profit above all else if they are to survive. Making good games is the end of that means, not the means to the end. And Cinematic games do not make a profit; many of the companies making them are now expiring."

"So what!?" the hardcore shouted impatiently. "The games are still great! I don't care if a few companies go under, I just want my games!"

The stranger sighed. "You don't get it, do you? Who will make your Cinematic games if all of the companies die? Who will give you your fix then? The age of the Cinematic game is over, and with it, all those who will not flock to the Social Cycle which is rising. You cannot make the sun stop setting, and you cannot stop the cycle from ending. Do not hate Nintendo, for they are only the heralds of the inevitable shift."

"I refuse!" the hardcore spat, and turned to chase the setting Cinematic Cycle's sun.

"Futility..." the stranger muttered, walking off towards the rising Social Cycle sun, shaking his head. The hardcore would only find darkness at the end of his journey, but the stranger at least would find a brilliant day awaited him in the near future.

Then why don't you just look at the third party games on the DS? I don't care all that much about Nintendo games on the DS but I bought mine for all the RPGs.

I have thought about getting a DS, but I dont really like 2D games, and I really dont have the money to get another console just for RPGs, i have got my 360 now for RPGs

I dont really play on handhelds much, so I dont really have a great need for more games for my PSP, and Star Oceans should keep me busy for some time
