Some of those cliches have to go though I wouldn't mind if they kept others. I wouldn't mind random battles but it isn't necessary anymore with the powerful hardware these days

What about main characters that you can't tell if they are male or female?

This is my signature.

192 rules that make a JRPG.
If you understand more than half of those rules, it means you are a RPG addict like me

Yes, that lists every cliche ever used in JRPGs but we are talking about cliches we want to get rid of the most

I agree in the zodiac spear point, the cheap amnesia plot and the teenager saving the world, but for the others i think this man should quit playing RPG.

The first two are pretty rare, all things considered, and some of the others rarely rear their heads. I would enthusiastically agree with #1 though, just to mix things up a bit.

I would also propose an addition: don't give me ten-plus characters that are with me at all times, but mysteriously only permit three characters to fight at any given time. It's very annoying, and almost never explained. Do what Final Fantasy IV, Chrono Trigger, and the first Star Ocean did: invent plausible reasons for why only three to five people are ever in my party at any given time, rather than just arbitrarily have over half my people sit idly on the sidelines.

Should be set in stone. Not being sarcastic here, this is well thought out.

GOTY Contestants this year: Dead Space 2, Dark Souls, Tales of Graces f. Everything else can suck it.

The main audience of JRPGs are Japanese gamers and androgonous characters appeal to the Japanese so that should not be considered a bad cliche
