Forums - Sony Discussion - Dark Knight and Iron Man Blu-Ray Effect on PS3 Sales

I cant wait to get it. Just did purchase Begins on BD. I did thought the picture would be sharper, but sound is amazing.

Effect on PS3? Non. Standard Blu-Ray players now cheaper than PS3?
DVD will get the cake.

Yep sony put the most powerfull CPU in the PS3 then fail to use it to enhance the blu-ray image - they could easily be doing 50Hz motion flow with the cell chip on the PS3 and blow- the competitions players out of the water.
And also use the same tricks to get better DVD playback for normal DVD's too like what Toshiba latest DVD player does.
FYI doing motion flow or image enhancement from the source is far superior and easier than doing it in the display.
I really am supprised at how lame Sony are with the software on the PS3 - It wont hurt their motion flow LCD sales because you still need it for broadcast sources.

PS3 number 1 fan

If Blu-ray is gaining ground and Sony and other vendors out their are advertising the format good. Then Dark Knight will help the Blu-ray format something good!!!

Funny you should mention that, I have a friend who swore to me he'd only get a PS3 when GT5 comes out and he's not getting prologue as he didn't want to buy an incomplete game.

Last weekend at the movie I mention getting Dark Knight on BR and he enthusiastically told me he was gonna get it too. Knowing that he doesn't have a BR player I asked if he was going to get one and he said yes he was, he was getting a PS3 and GT5p at the same time as The Dark Knight

It may not sway many but BlueRay has bagged at least one customer for Sony.

(from the notes for the 2.50 firmware)

Video

  • You can now select one of nine volume output levels using the [Volume Control] setting on the control panel.
  • [Scene Search] has been added as an option on the control panel.
  • You can now use the [Mosquito Noise Reduction] setting for video content that is saved on the hard disk or storage media. Use this setting to reduce mosquito noise that appears on the edges of visual images.
  • During BD (BDAV) and DVD playback, a technique known as “chroma upsampling” is now automatically selected based on the movement of objects within the video content and then applied to enhance images in the content

Is "Chroma Upsampling" the same as this "motion Flow"?

Iron Man broke all Blu-ray sales records. The Dark Knight will break all of Iron Man's records. Neither will have an impact on PS3 sales, but Blu-ray player sales will increase dramatically.

Thanks for the input, Jeff.

Dark knight, Iron man & Hellboy well help blu-ray which indirectly will help PS3 in the long run. Will it help over the holiday season? i doubt it but over the next couple of years? i think so.
