Forums - General Discussion - Russia Invades Georgia

I hear a lot of US rhetoric and misinformation being spouted here. I think there is far to little information for us to make any type of a judgement on these events.

Also, this is very bad, and I predict a nice spike in oil prices coming very soon.

Russia has a larger nuclear stockpile than America. It is also on very friendly terms with China which is the worlds newest superpower. It would be suicidal for America to engage the situation when it cannot even prevail against a bunch of children and grandpa's carrying home made bombs in Iraq.

Ouch

Could you be more specific as to what posts are spouting that rhetoric and misinformation?

@DTG, how many of Russian nuclear missiles functional? Last time I checked Russia decommissioned a majority of its missiles, unlike the US. Also, China and Russia do not get along, they have more negative history than Russia and US.

Russia and China hold joint military exercises year after year. They tend to agree on every issue brought forth to the UN. They openly communicate with eachother on friendly terms, in fact China is buying it's first aircraft carrier from Russia at a "friendly" price.

Russia decomissioned several tens of thousands of nukes following the end of the cold war but still retains a larger nuclear stockpile than the US.

I don't really want to piont people out, but MrBubbles post about Russia wanting control of Georgia again is speculation based on US propaganda (sorry MrBubbles, but I needed to pick someone).  I had read some comments on other forums and kind of trailed it into my post.

DTG us from the UK and thinks the current US goverment is equal or worse to Hitler's germany and Stalin's russia.  The talk of Russian power is only to make America look less powerful.

As for Russia wanting Georgia. Well they do want at least part of it.  South Ossetia

Nukes have no really use since the US has the power to send the entire world back to the stone age.  They also have the ability to pump out nuclear missiles at an alariming rate if they need to.  The US army is made to fight other armies not go door to door looking for old women who hide AK's and bombs under their clothes.  The US is the worlds biggest military power and no other countries have the power to match what the US can do.

I think most of the Russia and China UN agreements aren't based on idealist agreement, but on anti-US ideals.  Yes, attitudes between China and Russia are improving all the time, but they are nowhere near most western countries.

I have looked and yes Russia does have more missles then the US, but they both have roughly 10 times more than either of them need.

And the news networks right now?

Covering John McCain, a bus crash and some criminal who refused a visit from his brother.

Nice.

typical news media
