2 weeks of decent numbers for the 360 over a clearance price and shortages of the PS3 and the 360 fanboys are all changing their mind about who is coming in 2nd this generation.

What the hell are you thinking? A price cut in the US will save the 360 WW? Some exclusives no one has heard of will help? PS3 exclusives yet to come will amount to nothing? Blu-ray will amount to nothing? Home will give the PS3 a better online experience for FREE, yet customers will somehow prefer paying for Live? ? Future PS3 price cuts will amount to nothing? The PS3 will be in front of the 360 before you notice it.

However, you speak of Nintendo like they were in a much worse position than they were - people seem to forget Nintendo focuses on profits. They can afford a failure, a third place console like the GCN, because they still profit off of it - compare this to the Xbox, which sold just slightly more yet ended up losing $4 billion. Staying in the business is not all about marketshare, it's about making profits. If Sony ends up with losses for the PS3, they aren't necessarily in a better position than Nintendo was before the Wii. I'm not saying ending with a large marketshare isn't important, but if the company doesn't make money there's no point in continuing - even Microsoft has its limits. |
I'm sorry if the possibility of reality hurts. I've always thought that it was Nintendo's handhelds that gave them the primary incentive to say in the hardware business (PROFITS!!!) prior to this gen. And didn't SONY's gaming division made a profit just recent? And so what if they didn't, yet. And we can speculate all day, which is not the point. So none of us know what will exactly will happen. But all I said was "Nintendo was NOT first for two generations straight..." and "They were 2nd during the PSOne days and then third last gen..." These are simply FACTS without judgement. There is no way anyone can reasonably interpret that "they were in a much worse position than they were." So just chill.

so by taking your logic and apply it to lasst gen the xbox and gamecube was fighting for the #1 spot and the ps2 wasnt even competing in the same generation. thakns it is all clear now.

Nonsense post. While addmitedly they are'nt in the same position they were in in previous generations, they do have the know how from dominating like never before with the first two playstations.
Yes price is a key factor. However, line up the PS3 and the 360 and while some people will prefer the cheaper option (and with equally great titles) just as many uninformed will look and think 'Hmm thats expensive must be better'. Not to mention its the bloody Playstation. NO other company would have done half as well (average) with that price tag, library and negative press.
I have no idea how its gona go this holiday but I remember when the holiday sales came around last year and it was expected that Sony would perform in a very distant 3rd place and we all know how that turned out. Sony out of it? Playstation dead? Those words an oxymoron of some kind lol.
