Forums - General Discussion - What are your favorite hip hop albums of this millennium so far?

I really cant say that i listen to hip-hop but I listen to rap, and there is a difference between the two. Mainstream hip-hop right now is all about getting people to do some crazy ass dance and shakin their ass in the clubs.

I would agree with d21lewis list of albums but i wouldn't consider it a hip-hop list because of t.i. and lil wayne, i consider both of them in the rap gengre.

dude you are a dumb person, talking about "recent rap" and you don't even list anything past 2004.
good rap is somewhere you can find all your other emo underground garbage, so try giving it a chance, it's out there, just not on mtv.

You're calling me dumb for talking about recent rap and not listing anything past 2004 when I clearly ASKED for recommendations because I am aware that I am unaware of recent rap? And on top of that, because I don't know what bullshit rap you like, you accuse me of liking emo underground garbage? I have more artistic sensibilities in my foreskin than you'll ever even read about.

You sir, are a dumb person.

Please leave my thread and stop harassing my friends.

no i call it emo garbage because that came from the underground too. As far as your tastes go bud, they are pretty hipster/scenester tho, and i would assume you get advice from people who are a little too elitist about their music goin on about "old school" and "funky rythm" so i would probably throw you into the underground catagory which for the longest while consisted of emo, indie stuff. 2 of your rap bands listed came out in the emo underground era. and jazzy j? let go of the past and accept the change.

beastie boys/outkast/HBMS/MCPaul/busdriver... not rap.

onyxmeth knows where its at.

and you talk about 80's like you know. you weren't 8 years old by 1990. and you said "hey forget 1995-2000" some amazing albums happened in that time-frame. If maybe you wanna listen to some good music and expand your horizons then try listening to a broad range of stuff, and not just saying the 80's rap was best. since you've already missed the evolution of rap 1995-2000 tupac biggie big l and others, maybe you should start there, and stop taking cd recommendations from women!

try chamillionaire's ultimate victory. its one of my favs

Tupac was a big rapper from 1995 to 2000? That's funny considering he died in 1996.

And what's wrong with the 80's? Why should i need to "move on?" Why can't I listen to music that came out before I (or my mother) was born? What's the oldest music you listen to, you 25 year old elitist scumbag?

And why are you randomly insulting women? Being a sexist asshole isn't really going to gain you musical taste credibility around here. We like all kinds of music and all kinds of women around these parts. You're the one who hates music and women, dooshbag.

And of course James Brown influenced hip hop. Elvis did not influence rock. Rock influenced Elvis.

what's funny is how you don't realize that tupac and biggie had a much bigger fanbase and influence in 95 to 00 than when they were alive. In fact many called the "war" a cunning trick that made them megagods in the music biz. but i guess you just have to "know" these things, to understand.

And what's wrong with the 80's?

nothing's wrong with the 80's sir. but don't go around saying that 80's rap was the best, cuz it wasn't. it is just like the video-game scene today where everyone is asking where all the great games are at, not realizing there are some ground breaking things going on.

Why should i need to "move on?"

you just said you wanted to know some good rap from this millenium, ummm, did you miss your own point?

Why can't I listen to music that came out before I (or my mother) was born?you can. I'm just saying that you shouldn't say that era of rap was the best if you weren't there to listen to it. Art reflects society, and this is our society. Don't go saying the pioneers of the precursur to rap were the best rappers, because they weren't rappers. I'm sure most people will tell you that while NWA is badass, but in reality they are kinda tame by today's standards, and ice-cube just doesn't seem that gangsta. It's like saying MS-paint is the shit, when it was really only the shit back in the day. And is now more of a slightly embarassing classic memory. now if you had said earth wind and fire, i would have been a little more lenient.

What's the oldest music you listen to, you 25 year old elitist scumbag?and that's where you true elitists shine. making it a competition.

And why are you randomly insulting women? Being a sexist asshole isn't really going to gain you musical taste credibility around here. We like all kinds of music and all kinds of women around these parts. You're the one who hates music and women, dooshbag.

*slow applause*

i said that james brown influenced rap as much as elvis influenced rap. btw that's deep man, that's so mind blowingly deep. "rock influenced elvis". i'm gunna make that my new thing.

and why bother asking for recommendations when you say you pretty much like anything with dan the automators hands in it. then look up stuff he's had his hands into. gorillaz, HBMS(which you are already aware of, which was a letdown to say the least)w/e. You would do better to look up stuff kid koala does since he pwns.

also, maybe you just didn't know about it before but there's this interesting music site called pandora where you can enter a song that you like and it will make a playlist for you from a catalog of thousands upon thousands of songs that are simliar in type. it is simple and easy.
