^ It's possible that some units of 60gb have Jasper and some dont. I expect though that by September they will all be Jasper.:)

100 Watts definately seems Jasper. And to those mentioning the disc spinning noise, I think the OP was meaning the loud hum noise from the fans that is gone. Whenever you used to fire a game up the fans would go into overdrive and sound like a vaccumm cleaner. Good to know thats gone.:)

Also if you buy a 60gb unit and install the game you won't really have much noise at all. Im thinking of getting an Elite later this year and installing all my games.

The disc spinning noise is quieter if you have a Falcon anyway. Think they have 3rd generation drives in the Falcon. As long as the fan hum is gone I'm a happy chappy. Slight disc noise is nothing. Well done M$ I'll be getting a Jasper unit for christmas.:)

No such thing as "3rd generation drives".

There was originally Hitachi\Samsung drives, then Benq...Which were no quieter...Now Lite-on...Also...No quieter.

Some people report having quiet drives, some don't.

Maybe you should see how long you can keep it on before it #$%^&* on you. I know a person who left their PS3 on for months (3 to be exact) and its still running. He did that just to make sure it won't die on him if he kept it on for a long period of time. If I remember, a house burned down not long ago because of the 360 since it was left on.

Its like you are doing a science experient with what you are doing lol.

Both your friend and the person who left their 360 on need to stop wasting so much energy. I'm guessing he doesn't pay for his electricity bill?

Just kiss the tip.

the original 20gb/60gb ps3 did consume alot of energy 240w
but the new 40gb 65mm manufacturing process decrease that to less than 150w-200w.
there was an article about this in ps3fanboy.com

It wasn't me I posted someone elses findings.

Tease.

The 360 drive has gotten far far quieter in recent iterations. I was borrowing a first gen 360 for the longest time before finally nabbing my own during the latest clearancr sale. The difference is like night and day quite honestly. I don't even really notice the noise from mine. The noise generated is hardly worth noting at this point.

I'll buy another 360 this Christmas if that's true. Damn thing is so noisy. >_>

Countdown days to Jasper first RROD starts now!

Personally, I prefer the awesome name "Falcon" to the hillbilly sounding "Jasper". I'll take my RROD, thank you very much!

You're a fool.

As for me, I'm waiting for the upcoming "Jethro" units.

Add Tull to that unit and you've got a deal :)
