Hmmm, I would say Starcraft and Phantasy Star Online probably took up the most time. There are probably some others in there that I just don't realize how much time they took up. I've beat FF6 and 8 4 times each, and those aren't short games.

Pokemon Red
easily Diablo II when it comes to singe games....I'm currently trying to get a few people to come play with me as well right now >.>
after that, Maplestory (surprised to see other VG charts members also played maplestory), and pokemon. My ruby and pearl have over 300 hours EACH into them, and i've owned at least one per color group.

phantasy star online series on dreamcast gamecube and 360. no games will ever take that much of my time as them that i listed

Melee, Bond, Civ 2. The different iterations of MK and SC have taken a lot of my life too.
Also many hours of wii bowling. O and desktop tower defense gets me a lot too.
My always playing list in my sig have wasted many years of my life.
Getting an XBOX One for me is like being in a bad relationship but staying together because we have kids. XBone we have 20000+ achievement points, 2+ years of XBL Gold and 20000+ MS points. I think its best we stay together if only for the MS points.
Nintendo Treehouse is what happens when a publisher is confident and proud of its games and doesn't need to show CGI lies for five minutes.
