The ps3 will be around for around 10 years. So far they have sold almost 15 million units each year the total sales will rise at least 10 more million. 10 X 8 + 15 = 95 million. The wii will most likly only last 5 years. each year selling around 20 mill. 3 x 20 + 30 = 90. Of course this will be a very close race by the end of it and the numbers variet a couple of million. Of couse this doesn't inculde all the unknown variables such as massive hits, scandles etc etc.

That's not your thoughts, that's Sony's thoughts

Also, PS3 has been out for 1 year and 9 months, and hasn't sod 15 million

I love how people are always like "OMG the PS3 is unsuccessful, it hasnt sold 20 Million yet!" when reality shows that it is only a little bit behind the PS2 at the same point in its lifecycle.  You can choose to see it, or you can choose to be ignorant.  Its up to you.

Where are you actually seeing scottie saying "OMG the PS3 is unsuccessful, it hasn't sold 20 Million yet!"? 'Cause I'm not seeing it.

There's something about the PS3 not reaching 15 million yet... but I'm not seeing "OMG's" or "unsuccessful's". You might want to stop assuming everyone's after the PS3, just a suggestion.

It was a point on top of a point, not an accusation.  Nowhere did I say he was saying that, sometimes I just like to pick a post and hit quote, its easier than scrolling to the bottom of the screen.

Bethesda's Todd Howard "if install base really mattered, we'd all make board games, because there are a lot of tables."

Wait... you did... wha?

Okay then... Another suggestion for ya: It's best not to quote random people that have nothing to do with what you're talking about. It can (obviously) confuse people.

Last year everyone said that the PS3 will never outsell the 360...

The majority of optimistic predictions I have heard for the XBox 360 have it maintaining 2nd place in English speaking countries and not losing by that much to the PS3 ... There have been far more posts by far more people that expected the Wii to not pass the Gamecube's sales worldwide than there have been people that expected the XBox 360 to retain a worldwide lead over the PS3.

lol all i read about 2006 and most of 2007 was how the ps3 would struggle to reach 10 millions.

Pro-tip:  Try hitting the "End" button on your keyboard to jump to the bottom of the page.

EDIT: You could also just hit Reply instead of Quote.

Incorrect.

I assume you're referring to aligning the PS3 and the PS2 sales charts?  You have to remember both console have different yet staggered launch periods.   Try aligning all 3 territories individually for the PS2 and PS3 and you'll it's very different.

Here, I shall do the leg work for you.

Japan:
http://vgchartz.com/hwlaunch.php?cons1=PS3&reg1=Japan&cons2=PS3&reg2=Japan&cons3=PS2&reg3=Japan&weeks=156

PS2 - 6.1 million
PS3 - 2.3 million

America:
http://vgchartz.com/hwlaunch.php?cons1=PS3&reg1=America&cons2=PS3&reg2=America&cons3=PS2&reg3=America&weeks=156

PS2 - 11.0 million
PS3 - 5.5 million

Europe:
http://vgchartz.com/hwlaunch.php?cons1=PS3&reg1=Europe&cons2=PS3&reg2=Europe&cons3=PS2&reg3=Europe&weeks=156

PS2 - 7.0 million
PS3 - 5.9 million

This gives a total units sales for all three major territories for each console as:

PS2 - 24.1 million
PS3 - 13.7 million

The Wii given the same period is at 29.6 million.

13.7 million is more than just a little bit behind 24.1 million.   Another factor to keep in mind, the PS2 sold almost 20 million units before the Xbox and GC even launched.  That gave PS2 a huge advantage that PS3 does not have.

The rEVOLution is not being televised

Last year situation: 360 has AAA exclusives, PS3 doesn't. Multiplats look better on 360. Blu-ray hasn't won the format war yet. 360 is cheaper. By all accounts 360 should win. Yet mainly because of the brand name PS3 outsells 360. Why do you think it's impossible for the PS3 to become a threat to the Wii once a slim version is introduced?

Depending on how you define "Struggle" that could be considered an accurate statement ...

When you align regional launches, it took the PS3 a similar ammount of time to make it to 10 Million units as it took the PS2 to make it to 20 Million units. On top of that the PS3 needed several different bundles, Sony had to introduce a new model at a lower price, and the Blu-Ray consortium (read: Sony) had to spend hundreds of millions of dollars to secure exclusivity from certain movie companies to kill HD-DVD in order for the PS3 to break 10 Million units that quickly. I think that it is fair to say that the PS3 struggled to break 10 million in comparison to previous Sony systems.

Sony didn't bribe Warner Bros, they cut off HD DVD support since Blu-ray was outselling HD DVD 3:1 at least.

Cherry-picking a side-point doesn't change the main point, that point being that the PS3 is under-performing compared to its predecessor in spite of pulling a lot more guns to get as much as they have.
