I'm sorry, but there's parts on the Wiimote that dig into my hand, and it leaves marks. It really pisses me off, that they couldnt design them to be more... hand-friendly. Maybe I'm holding them wrong or something... But any-other way, I cant do the buttons right, so Idunno.

Uh oh... Agreeing with Kwaad... World ending... Just kidding. :D

Actually, I'm surprised that so few of us are calling out the Wiimote for its shoddy design. The controller digs into your hand after awhile, the buttons are poorly laid out, and all-around, it's not a great industrial design for a controller.

The Wii itself is a blast to play but the controller could have used a few more man-hours in the design stage, methinks.

The Wii Remote is one of the more comfortable controllers I've held, and I prefer its ergonomics to the Gamecube Controller, Xbox controller, and PS1 controller, so I think we're not calling it out because many of us don't agree :p

I liked the PS2 controller quite a bit, but since I'm a PC Gamer first and foremost, holding any pad with both hands feels unnatural at this point. It's a bit peculiar, but I immediately felt more comfortable with the Wii Mote/Nunchuck because it gave each hand a separate task, just as the Mouse and Keyboard do.

 We must be retards or something, becuase we cant hold it right. :(

Yeah, I hold my Wiimote with a death-grip of lazyness. I also hold my PS3, PS2, x-box, PS1, N64, GameCube, SNES, and NES, and mouse/keyboard about the same grip. Never had a problem out of any of those except the NES... (If you say the NES was good confort... die you liar)

 That's one of the main reasons I dont play on the Wii much at all. And in terms of how imporant I feel the controller is... Let me give a good example here.

I played the PS2 over the GameCube untill I got my wavebird... I stopped playing the PS2 completely almost, due to the added confort/wireless. Then I got my Logitech PS2 controller... I stopped usening the GameCube at that time. Then the PS3 came out, and I couldnt use the LogitechPS2 controller anymore, and the six-axis despite being a little light, is great.

I fly this flag in victory!

Guys, you're supposed to hold the Wii Remote, not squeeze the ever-loving shit out of it.  :P

Seriously, I've never had any problems with anything digging into my hand.  The whole thing is rounded except for the top, which you don't grip.  What digs?

For everyone saying a D-Pad is useless, you don't play many fighting games, do you?  Analog sticks are useless in Killer Instinct.  :P

I would have preferred more than one accessible button on the top of the Wii Remote.  Maybe Nintendo experimented with a few designs and found that users were often pressing the wrong one, but I dunno.  I think they could have fit ABXY up there and it would've worked.  Still, with a nunchuk, you've got A, B, L, and C, which is enough for all but the most complicated control schemes.

the only problems i have with the wii remote are it comes 3rd in terms of reducing sweaty hands for me [which is strange considering nintendo comes 1st and 2nd] and if a game uses both the + button and the top half of the d-pad you have to move hand positions, i can comfortably hit + and d↓ without moving my hand though.
i cant understand how gripping the remote can cause such discomfort though, less so the nunchuck, it couldnt be more comfortable if it was made of plasticine..

Also it is very useful for menus. When I play JRPGs I use the left analog stick for movement but for combat I use the D-pad.

wii remote and Gamecube are by far my favorite. The Gamecube button layout was awesome, the sizes and shapes really helps actually, and the d pad was perfectly fine.

My least favorite is the dualshock 1/2 and sixaxis, man those things are clunky, and the analog sticks are just in terrible positions, i don't like the shoulder buttons either.

I really do not like the keyboard, mouse is good, but the keyboard is just terrible. Sure you have a ton of buttons, but to me ti doesn't even feel like i'm playing a game, the keyboard is a bad set up for fps, but the mouse is what owns. So that's why i think Wii FPS will be better than PC FPS on feel alone. I've played Half-life 2 and loved it, but, i simply don't like the keyboard at all. I liked the feel of Metroid Prime way better than the keyboard, and would take it over keyboard and mouse anyday but that's just me.

Have no clue what people talk about with Wii-mote digging into hand, its a gloss surface with no hard angles.

End of 2007 Predictions:

Wii =18m

360=14m

PS3=7m

DS=64m

PSP=30m

I think the smaller Xbox/360 controllers tie with the Wiimote for most comfortable and useful. I think it's the perfect design as far as traditional controllers go; the sticks are easy to handle, button size and placement are sensible, the triggers break cleanly, and it's ergonomically well-designed. (The original Xbox controller was, of course, an abomination.)

I'm ambivalent about the N64 controller. The stick and Z-trigger are cool, but the trident design is terribly foolish. And the GC controller was even worse, with its ridiculous XYZ placement and oversized/undersized A/B buttons. The sticks never seemed to work as well as those on PS2 or Xbox, either. I hated playing traditional FPSs with it, though Metroid worked beautifully.

The DualShock is just okay. Nothing terrible, but nothing outstanding - the sticks are a bit too far down, the triggers are too shallow to really break cleanly, and the handle design can get a bit uncomfortable after a long sessions. It's like the Xbox design team looked at every flaw and improved upon it. I haven't used a Sixaxis for a couple of weeks, but I remember it felt better than the DualShock.

And yeah, I don't get the Wiimote complaints. I'm holding one right now, and I honestly can't find any sharp surface to dig into my skin. It could do with another face button, but on the whole it's clean and comfortable.

i thought the button placement on gc is by far the best, only z was slightly awkward which you sometimes want in a game [dont want to press accidentally] though i agree z was annoying for fps.
burnout is so much better when you can just lean your thumb from A to B and x/y for gears.

Controllers I used each Generation...

Nes Vs Sega Master

Nes contoller, even though the shape was the same the Nes controller was more comfortable and had Start and Select buttons.

SNES vs Genesis

SNES it felt better while playing and had more buttons. (Mortal Kombat 2 anyone?)

N64 vs PS1 vs Sat

N64 controller.

Like the N64 controller.

 DC vs GC vs PS2 vs Xbox

To me the second Xbox controller is very very comfortable. It's the best one to me but from original design has to go to the PS2 controller on this one.

360 vs Wii vs PS3

I have played with the PS3 controller but I like the Wii better than the 360 one.

Overall I like the SNES controller the best.
