Because a game on a comparitively limited install base, from a traditionally frontloaded franchise, which was one-upped by a better game in it's genre a matter of weeks after it's release, is totally analogous to a game on a comparitively larger install base, from a traditionally long-legged franchise, which won't be one-upped until at least 2 years after it's release. Good point.

Exactly.  I don't see the connection.  360 will probably end up about 30-60 million consoles sold while we could realisicaly end up with over 100million.  The potential for Galaxy to outsell Halo 3 is quite high.

 Well, they are both coming from the same franchise to a system that is selling about the same amount of units, so yes, I expected NSMB legs for SMG actually.

As said earlier, SM64 had a lot less competition.

I think it does, Mario Usually gets great holiday boost. Although I do not believe it will pass Mario 64 in Japan.

The main reason for this off course is the fact that the Wii userbase will be 3x that of the N64 at the least.



End of 2009 Predictions (Set, January 1st 2009)

Wii- 72 million   3rd Year Peak, better slate of releases

360- 37 million   Should trend down slightly after 3rd year peak

PS3- 29 million  Sales should pick up next year, 3rd year peak and price cut
