Forums - Microsoft Discussion - Mole attack: 360 price cuts on all hardware in September

I thought MS wants to just cruise along and make some more profits from its gaming division to please shareholders. Have no price cut this year and wait until next year when Sony reduces the price of PS3 in America and MS counter it with a price cut on the X360.

The X360 hardware is profitable, and still would be after the cut.Remember folks: The 65nm archatecture is set to launch THIS MONTH. More than likely a Sept. price cut would happen when the newer, cheaper-to-produce systems hit the market. MS did this last year - Drop the price when you make a console revision.

Back from the dead, I'm afraid.

Mrstickball- I just looked at MS's latest earnings statement.....the games division lost some 144million dollars if I remember correctly

I doubt that we will see a cut this sept.

Hasn't there just been a price cut in America?

one can only hope that sony follows.

Pachter says that both the 360 and PS3 will have a $50 cut by the end of the year (according to kotaku.com), the thing of it is though is that w/ Sony's most recent earnings statement, they have barely made a profit at all this most recent quarter, so it wouldn't surprise me if Sony's games division feels pressure to be conservative, and not cut prices so that profitability wouldn't be harmed.

Would the hardware still be profitable if they did that i mean they made losses this month

They are shedding a boat load of cost with the Jasper revision, especially if the rumors that they are combining the GPU/ED ram die are true. Its a shrink of the memory/chipsets and not just the GPU and you can bet that warranty costs on this model will be lower than the Falcon model - thats for sure.

I think its a little aggressive but maybe thats what they need to regain their lost momentum?

Tease.
