Forums - Sony Discussion - Square Enix prefers MS over Sony?

lol its clear... they prefer money

Around the Network

They do not prefer either company in my opinion. The only difference is that they have only recently begun to really develop for Microsoft's consoles so everybody is blowing it a little bit out of proportion. The last game I remember really putting hours into on PSP was Crisis Core. It's not as if they wont be making FFXIII and VXIII for Playstation 3 anymore. I would hope that they will send SO4 over as well since they have two Star Ocean games coming out for PSP. A couple of exclusives simply means that they were funded for specific projects by Microsoft as to where Sony is still sitting back and refusing to spend the money.

 THEY DON'T HAVE MONEY

u can't blame sony :)

What does money have to do with it? Where is the proof that MS is paying companies for games? Other the the exclusive content for GTA 4 there is no proof MS is throwing money at companies to get games. Hell! If MS was throwing money at companies they would have exclusivity rights to most of the top games. Stop bashing MS over payouts because unless you have proof it's not true.

The truth is most games are going multiplat because companies want to make more money. Right now, PS3 software sales are not as high as 360 software sales because the PS3 has a smaller install base in the US. So, 360 multiplats tend to outsell their PS3 counterparts 2 to 1. For companies it makes sense cause they make money off both consoles or some times all three if the game is released on the Wii.

Square, unless wanting to be hypocritical about their neutral statement, doesn't care about MS. They care about money as any company does.

Not necessarily. They still have some left. They'll just rather spend it on KZ2 because they can't outbid M$

Money whore square too bad I'll buy their games regarless of the console :O

To be honest, as long as Microsoft keep handing out money for exclusives, timed exclusives and for previously exclusive titles to come to their system companies like Square-Enix are going to give them a lot of time and love. It's a business and they need money to keep themselves afloat. I don't think this is the end of exclusives from the company but we won't see them catering to just one or two systems anymore, mostly likely each system will have one or two exclusives followed by tons of multi plat stuff. Also I don't think FF versus XIII will go multi, I would like to think SE has a shred of dignity left.

Sony seem more interested in providing their fanbase with new franchises than using their money to secure the current 3rd party exclusives they do have. Where as MS is using their money to buy exclusives and not worrying about making anything new.

Developing for every appealing platform is OK. Pissing off their up until last gen main public isn't. While this time XB360 potential public is currently still bigger than PS3 one, they are on the same order of magnitude, and smaller than Wii user base, so, if Wii isn't powerful enough for their game, they need both "hardcore" consoles.
And given that PS3 user base fidelity is certain, while XB360 users appreciation is still a big question mark, it's right that SE tries to lure new gamers, but pissing off the old ones is a very bad move. If they want both platforms, with a game that already generated so high expectaions, they must commit themselves deeply to both versions and invest all the money necessary, FF is their most renowned product, a shaggy release on either platform wouldn't be a disaster for either Sony or MS, it would be for SE.
This said, Sony would better create or buy or finance for exclusive his own big JRPG (or even more than one), japanese market is important for japanese consoles, it's their little but significant, faithful, exclusive advantage to start from towards world market domination.

To be honest, as long as the production costs go up and the sales stays the same they are forced to go multi-plat to cover the cost and to make a profit to fund new projects.. and with the bad Economy on a global scale it better be your game that is bought on whatever system then no sale..
